Mate I feel so bad for you. I also feel slightly more worried about mine too, given that I've only seen 1 other on the road, ever!

Terrible news 😧

EDIT: I didn't get GAP insurance. I'm now tempted to...

@r0ss172 that will settle any outstanding finance with VW/Leaseplan whoever it is.
From ALA website:
Back to Invoice Plus - In the event of a total loss claim, Back to Invoice GAP Insurance (also known as Return to Invoice) will either pay the difference between the comprehensive insurance settlement and your original invoice, or the outstanding finance - whichever the greater. Suitable for vehicles owned outright or on finance and for new and used vehicles up to 10 years old, delivered within the last 365 days.
Contract Hire Plus - pays the difference between the comprehensive insurance settlement and the amount of outstanding rentals as well as any shortfall in the vehicle value in the event of a total loss claim. Suitable for new and used vehicles on contract hire, delivered within the last 365 days.

In effect, either policy should clear any outstanding debt you have with your lease company.
Cheers mate,
yeah thats what i understand. I was just intrigued to know whether i will get my deposit back so that i can use it towards getting another lease. It looks like that might not be the case, but either way, when taking the policy out i made sure i got the maximum cover possible through VW, i wont owe anything thats the main thing.

Unfortunately, whilst i think ALA do do a policy where you get your deposit back, its fairly new so not something that VW will have offered at the time i wouldn't have thought. Genuinely amazed at how many Golf R's have been nicked, its like the 90's hot hatch theft crisis all over again! Except they take your keys with force instead of putting a carrot in the ignition (xr3i/xr2i/nova gsi/astra gte etc etc).

Ffs, sorry to hear about your ordeal, that's properly horiffic! Hope you and your family are ok and the insurance etc doesn't give you any hassle. What are the police saying?

Yeah will need to wait and see what happens.

The police are saying its been stolen to order and is most likely in a lock up somewhere being stripped for parts, or in a container to be used at a later date for whatever. I'm amazed you cant track new cars these days.

The daft thing is, out of all of the car finance companies we use, only one insists that a tracker is fitted.
And that's only in case they need to repo it, not to track it if its been stolen. Madness really.

Thank god your child's wasn't in the car and that no one was hurt. Hope you are able to sort out the financials without suffering a loss and that you/your wife is ok having experienced/been witness to such a horrible event.
Make sure you try and remember everything in the car so that you can claim it on the insurance.

Unfortunately it looks like we are set to receive quite a heavy financial loss. Insurance for car only covers up to £250 for personal belongings, and house insurance £1000. Excess on car policy is £600 for some absurd reason?? and house policy is £150. So £750 just in excess. My GAP policy will cover £250 of excess so im £500 up, but the total value of things in the boot was well over £2000.

Just to add insult to injury, it looks like i'm also set to lose my deposit on my car too, so will need to fork out for that again on my next car. All in all looking pretty rubbish!! As said though i really dont care about that in the grand scheme of things... the family and I are all alive n well and thats all that matters

CS has changed. 5 years ago, there would have been a 19 year old 8 stone kid in here saying he'd have overpowered the guy and pistol-whipped him with his own piece.

Sad times, CS. Sad times.
He did tbf. Rip.

So didn't the GAP cover the deposit.?
Well Listers VW (where the lease was from) seem to think not... I wont know for sure until the vehicle is classified a total loss after my engineers report call (due for tomorrow) is completed. Listers think the GAP will just cover everything to ensure i dont have to pay anything out. Just a waiting game now...

All depends on type of gap insurance you have and the exact terms on the policy doc. Go through them with a fine tooth comb. Hope you're able to get your deposit back and sorry to hear about the financial hit due to excess etc.

I've got "back to invoice", have gone through the policy and it just states I'll be covered for whatever is outstanding. The chap from GAP providers said I'll be covered for what ever the gap is between insurance payout and remaining owed. Have a feeling he was treating it like a PCP policy. It's annoying not knowing what's what and having no idea of when I'll find out for sure.

Anyone on here work in car sales n knows how GAP policies work on lease cars?

Glad you're all okay, I'm assuming you are under the impression it was planned ?

Scary stuff.. insurance companies are daylight robbers, it honestly baffles me that they get away with some things.

Yeah 100%. They were there to do a job on my car. Plenty of other more expensive machinery on our road they could have gone for.

Can't believe what I've just read. A gun and putting you in the boot. So lucky your child wasn't in the car. Too many of these c.nts about. Girl at work just had her house done over for the keys to their R but didn't find them. Trashed the house though. I only have the GTI but will keep an eye out after reading this. Hope you get it sorted in your favour with the gap and quickly.

Well, why are they all nicking Golf R's.
It's not like VW marketed it as extremely nickable and the best get a way car so why hold someone up at gun point for a f**king Golf?
They're fast, inconspicuous and will break for stupid money. Everything about it is what thief's dreams are made of.

Shortly after getting my Golf I got a couple of CCTV cameras too. Glad I did now. Also sorted out GAP insurance today with ALA. £113...
What's CCTV going to do if they've got balaclava's and guns??
If they want it, they're taking it.

Yeah I hate to say it but they won't stop for a CCTV camera mate, sorry. One thing that will stop them off the top of my head is a F*cking big dog! Which I'm now thinking of getting possibly, what do you think @DaveDreads

Bloody hell, sorry to hear about what happened to you. Can't believe with all the insurance and policies that decent people still end up out of pocket because some tw@t with a gun can't be arsed to work and earn a legitimate living!

Mate that is utterly f**king awful.

Thank good you're all physically ok but I can't imagine what you're all going through mentally.

There truly are some evil nasty c***s out there.

Best wishes mate.

Is this common round these parts do you know?

Not as far as I'm aware mate. But I'm not privy to crime trends in Essex so I can't say whether or not it's been happening with any degree of regularity.

Having said that, I think that if there were serial crimes of this nature taking place around here we would most likely be aware through the Essex community Facebook pages.
