Scott's Super Clean PH1 172 Project Thread

  Titanium ph1 turbo
Re: My PH1 172

1,357 Phase 1's were sold on our shores - its going to be a long time before any become valuable IMO.

Yep true.. but when you consider Phase 1's stopped in 2001, that's at least 12 years old.. so assume half that figure have now been written off, ~700 left... then assume roughly half of those are in a bad way.. ~350 ... that's not a great supply to a population over over 60 million people.. you only have to look at the R5 turbo's as an example of supply and demand, decent 5 turbo's sell for £3k+ now.. total minters way more than that... I see the ph1 as a good investment not only for low depreciation, but also for future value if maintained and looked after.

*edit - not to mention the fixed tax cost for pre < 2001 registered... you wait another 5-8 years when .gov is taxing anything over 100g co2 at £500 a year and pre 2001 performance cars will become a very sought after purchase. (Just my prediction/opinion anyway) ;)

Re: My PH1 172

So a bit of an up date, after i got my painted bits back form Chris @ Autocrash i wanted to protect the underside of the sills from stone chips.

I bought two lengths of this from ebay.

IMAG1892_zps6b7e03b5.jpg

Just had to cut the bits out, i sprayed some water with a drop of washing up liquid onto both services so i could slid the film into position. Just had to squeegee the water out and any bubbles that where trapped.
Oh and of course its clear not white, that's just the backing stuff.

Re: My PH1 172

So last week i ordered a few bits from Adam @ Renault Wolverhampton, the little box arrived on Friday morning. :D

So there is a few jobs that i wanted/needed to do on the car, one being the Aux belt kit as it is now 3 years old although the cars only done around 7k it needs doing.

While i am there i will replace the water pump, fixing bolts and fill the cooling system with the correct type D coolant.

The other jobs that i want to do was to replace the corroded alloy rear exhaust heat shield and fixings.

Another thing that was annoying me was the windscreen surround trims, so i replaced all 3 parts (it comes as a kit)

20130531_170637_zpsf82962e8.jpg

Much better. :D

The fuel flap stop rubber buffers had been knocked off while i was cleaning the car, this annoyed me as the fuel flap used to sit a little low. The rubbers are not available, only a complete unit so again i replaced it.

Rubbers missing.

20130601_140356_zpsd93d70ce.jpg

All done. :)

Last but not least the interior door handles had started to crack because of the bad/poor design, i have bought another pair but they have a new type of bolt which i have not got yet (they are on order)

I will start to do the Aux belt kit and water pump next weekend....:D

Oh but tomorrow my Cup spoiler goes to Chris @ Auto crash to be painted, i cant wait....:D

I had no idea the rubber on the windscreen corners, or the exhaust heat shield could be replaced for new,
i'm going to start making a list of my own. lol

Re: My PH1 172

Wicked attention to detail. The Cup spoiler will really finish off the rear.

I pikey fixed my rear heat shield yesterday ;).

Coming on nicely this mate, keep up the good work.

Cheers gents, PH1 <3 <3 just got to keep on top of these little pocket rockets.

Im genuinely excited a bout getting the spoiler fitted, im 37 ffs.....lol

Ever since Rob and Ant (scrooge) said about doing it and now ive seen what they look like i have wanted one. Im all for PH1 should stay PH1 but that is a great thing to do as the PH1 spoiler is just to small.

The top rubber is a bit tricky/tight to fit but if you get the kit before CCS and bring it along ill fit it for you. :)

Re: My PH1 172

I think the kit was £36 mate, the new ones are a little bit different (rubber looks better) so just fitting one would look a bit odd.

You could fit all 3 bits and sell your good bits on maybe.

Re: My PH1 172

Looking at this, before ever owning a cliosport i was offered one identical to this on 32k miles for £1500, took it a run and i still think to this day it pulled way harder than the two 182's i've had, gutted i never took it!

Thanks, ive owned it for 3 years. Spent time finding a good one to start with but it was not cheap.

Love keeping on top of it and doing things to make it better. :)

Re: My PH1 172

So last night i started to strip down the clio ready to replace the water pump and aux belt kit.

While im there im going to change the engine oil, filter and the spark plugs.

I also found that the PAS pump has a small oil leak so this will be replaced as well.

The only way to jack it up, bloody coilovers....lol

Yes mate its on the list of things to do, but ive spent a small planet on the car this month.

I was going to wait until i decide to fit cams so i will get the cam cover done at the same time, funny enough while i was laying in bed last night i was thinking about what colour to do it all. :)

Oh i have just placed an order for a new black bulk head trim, the one that's behind the engine..:rasp:

I'm not one for a bulk head trim Scott, I like it without :)

You've spent a fortune on it anyway, think all us ph1 owners have :)
