If anyone could advise me on things to check though I'm capable of checking these things myself , really pissing me off cos it's a quick car once it gets going , just runs rough as at idle.
Now I've recently bought this 172 that idles rough , and occasionally cuts out . The idle is very sporadic and feels like a misfire slightly. However the car pulls very hard through the rev range . The previous owner (friend) had been told the vehicle had uprated cams in and that's why it runs...
Well the car runs nicely now and pulls hard but won't idle . On idle it cuts out I don't think this problem is related and may have been pre existing as it always ran rough at idle for the previous owner. Any ideas what to check ?
In my defence I have washed countless engines in this manor , admittedly usually diesels or coil on plug variety ! Anyway I left it in the workshop over the weekend with the heater on , runs fine now so happy days !!
Well I have washed every other cars engine bay in the same manor and it has never caused any problem . My seat with the 20vt lump has no problems at all .
So washed my 172 engine today , developed a heavy misfire straight after , though maybe if got the coil too wet , dried all that and leads , stil missing , removed inlet manifold spark plug wells full of water , again cleaned and dried and refitted . Still misfiring . Anyone else got any...
Yeah I'll let you know mate ! I bought the car off a pal at work and I'm a mechanic by trade so thought air leak straight away , I didn't know what the vac pipe should have been connected to but drawig air all the time can't be helping . Got a few other niggles I'll probably be asking for advice...
When you dip the clutch it feels like it might almost cut out , just bounces off a low idle for a second before idling rough again . I put new plugs in it and like I say I wasn't sure if it was meant to be connected to some form of throttle bypass or idle air control valve .
So I've just bought a 172 that runs rough at idle , it has a k and n filter fitted , but just before the throttle there is a nipple for some sort ov vacuum hose that isn't connected/ is missing , could anyone help me as to where this should run too ??
