182 Cup Spoiler brake light not working....

  RB 182 FF
Hi guys, my 3rd brake light isn't working and when I hit the brake pedal my rear fog light symbol on the dash comes on(dull and flickers)... Anyone got any ideas where I need to start looking? Cheers...

Yep clios are bad for corroded rear light plugs give them all a good rub with a bit of sandpaper and bend the tabs a little so they are a better fit on the light it's normally the earth black wire that causes the issues if you have a look it's probable black on the contact do both sides also check the wireing where it goes from the car to the boot lid as they are always being flexed when the boot opens there prone to breaking pull the grommet back and check there not broken

Hi guys, I had a look at the brake light and there is absolutely no play or excess in the wires to be able to disconnect it... to be honest it doesn't look easy, I got the red cover off but couldn't do much else due to the lack of excess wire to fiddle with.... I can't stand these fiddley annoying jobs!:smile: @Tarmac Adam

Have you a test light if you can get the cover of and get to the bulb you can check see if you have power and an earth at the contacts on each side of the bulb

I haven't but one of my mates knows an auto electrician so I think I might give him some beer tokens to sort it out for me.... This kinda thing is not for me if its not simple to fix.....

Buy a new brake light? They break. Mine has just stopped working also so have bought a new one from Renault for £18.

No I don't think so... I've got the old one out with the spoiler in place... I think sliding the new brake light into the connector in the spoiler will be the tricky part from what I can see..... my connector has absolutely no excess wire to play with so looks fiddley.... I really dont want to remove the spoiler!:tongueclosed:

Take the spoiler off mate! Just done mine tonight and it is silly not to remove it. Also the underneath of mine was filthy and wet in places so i gave it a good clean and recovered the wires in tape.

I fitted mine yesterday and I did it with the spoiler in position but to be honest it was a right ball ache... Why the stupid French didn't just give 5cm of slack on the wire to connect a new unit I'll never know..... I managed it after about an hour of fiddling about.....:weary:

I didn't want to remove the spoiler through fear of it not going back the way it was.... being French and all that.....

Remove the whole spoiler and theres a hole at the back you can shove a pen through

Hi mate this happened on my cup too I was thinking the worst and was trying to source a new light, my local RS specialist took it apart and gave the terminals a good clean and applied a sealant and it’s good as now works perfectly! They did it when they serviced car didn’t charge me much !

I can't honestly remember how I did it but I did it without removing the spoiler... All I remember is being massively frustrated that Renault can't just give you a little slack wire to disconnect and replace with a new light..... 🙄

I found that 2 really wide wallpaper scrapers, one at the top and one below worked to get it out, I initially tried a flat screwdriver but stopped when I saw a slight crack appearing.

Be very gentle otherwise it will break and people are wanting over 100 quid for them on eBay now

i think i see the hole but there's boy enough space to get a pen behind there

Had a look at photos and I did remove it through the cable hole. There was loads of room for me

I replaced mine a couple of weeks ago, with a refurbished light unit from ebay. Removing (and re-fitting) the spoiler really isn't hard, but it does help to have a second pair of hands to hold it while you disconnect and re-connect the brake light wires and wiper jet.
Trust me on this. If i can do it, anyone can...
