182 Engine Light Flashing. Help Please

  182
Hi Guys.

I wonder if anyone knows the answer. My engine light was flashing last week and I took the car down to RS tuning in Leeds and they have sorted the timing out on the motor and it's running really sweet now.

However on the drive home (5 miles the light flashed on twice. There has been no loss in power and it's stopped being "jumpy" at low speeds. It drives and sounds like a different motor. Much quicker and feels like the 172 I used to own.

Any ideas on what's wrong with the engine light flashing? Should I be worried? And what I should do about it?

Thanks.

If you mean the orange engine light in the bottom right of the dash, mine does this sometimes when the engine is quite warm and it's stood still idling in traffic for a while. Doesn't seem to affect the engine.
Then, once you're moving the light goes out.
Be interesting to see what people reply with.

Yea the orange one buddy. I don't think I have been stuck in traffic while it has come on tho. It's just been doing it at random times

My car does exactly this also!!! it is fine if i am driving around but if i leave it to idle for a few minutes the light flashes and then goes out after i drive off...

I have fault code read it and its registering a N/A Fault (what ever that is) Cheap code reader though.....

I would like to know the outcome of this one also as it is annoying me

It's a problem with the ignition process or the injectors.

On mine it turned out to be an injector, but try tightening the spark plugs and checking the HT leads from the coil pack to see if that stops it.

Mine has been doing it for about 4k miles once in a while.

The first time it was a dead injector and this time it's looking likely another dead injector tbh.

Thanks Dan

Is there any process as to find which injector is possibly faulty or do I just replace all 4 ?

Where is the best place to purchase them if required ?

Using a Renault Clip tool or an RS tuner will show which one but otherwise order one wait till it's starts miss firing then change one and see if it get rid of the miss fire if not put it back in and try the new one on a different one until it goes away, takes time and effort I just went to a specialist to they did it in a day.

I have bought myself an RS tuner now which is a good piece of kit for fault codes.

  dan's cast offs.
personally don't rate rs tuner for diagnostic, got two phase 1's in both with management lights on and rs tuner says no faults, even my cheapy obd showed a code up.

if you want to check injectors measure resistance.

My car doesn't miss fire at all
Any idea what the resistances should be on the injectors?

Bear in mind that reading the resistance of the injectors will verify if their coils are ok but doesn't account for contamination or if they're partially blocked, if that's the case it also won't register a fault at the ECU with them. That engine light can refer to a reading from the lambda sensors it doesn't like, if an injector is blocked the mixture and emissions from that cylinder won't be right. If the injectors read ok resistance wise it may be worth getting them cleaned, it's a lot cheaper than replacing them.

It's happened a few times since. Paul at RS Tuning said originally that it might have had a Lambda on the way out alongside the timing of the car. Run's like a beaut now but little worried about the light. It seems like you Wilky as it happens when I am driving slowly in or just have been sitting in traffic. If I turn the car off and on again it goes and if I boot it, it also go's.

I think I will ring RS and see if they can have another look. Really appreciate the advice guys!

I had the same symptoms, the injector wasn't closing properly so was fine when driving normally or booting it but it was injecting too much fuel when not under load which made the engine run a bit rough and set the light flashing.

Thanks guys I think it's probably injector related as I have noticed today that when I'm idling for a while the car does start to idle a little rough when the light flashes but when it isn't flashing its idling smoothly

Just have the task of finding which is the culprit !!

Oh and with my decat and yozza it made awesome bangs and flames come out of the exhaust just before the injector died too, got told by someone following me it was pretty impressive lol

Hi Guys

What about if i use a can of injector cleaner in the petrol tank would this fix it ? or will it damage something else? (run lean etc) please advise

ok cool thanks for saving me some money!!! looks like ill just be buying 4 new ones then !!! only way to guarantee they will be good!!

Sounds like we are in the same boat. I have just been driving in and out of Leeds so haven't had the chance of a long drive. I reset the mpg and seem to be getting 25mpg. I was running at 35.9 before. But I guss it hasn't been so cold and I haven't done any long runs.

Does that sound normalish for city driving?

Has this been sorted now Wilky?

Fitted new spark plugs a decat with a new lambda and swapped the rear lambda with the front one and thrown the front one away.

Been for a short drive and it seems to have worked. Not been stuck in traffic which was the main problem so only time will tell but it's looking promising mate
