182 track build this winter.

Ok, so I've owned this clio for pretty much a year now and been on this forum as a full member for a month or so and I've decided it's time to start a post for my track car build over the winter!

The car has been good to me so far not needing any major work doing just the usual track rod ends and ball joints. It has been used and abused round cadwell park, croft, teeside autodrome and the nurburgring so far but there's plenty more to come next year!

Having just taken me 1700 miles round Europe through the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and austria I think I owe it a big build!

So...to the plan of action!
I have a good friend who owns a paint shop so thought it would be rude not to do a full colour swap to liquid yellow, after all who wouldn't want a liquid yellow track car right?! So with that being booked for January 15th it's up to me to get the shell ready for that.

Ordered my CM compisites fiberglass bonnet and tail gate and a set of plastic door blanks for starters.

Heres how she looks right now tucked away in the back yard while I use my E46 330I as a daily :)

Spec wise currently,
Rescently replaced all suspension to new cup dampers with eibach sport lines.
CL5+ pads on brembo HC discs.
Ktec ultrasport exhaust system.
Ktec induction kit.
Fully stripped interior including all carpets.
Cobra monaco bucket seat.
OZ racing superturismo wheels with toyo t1rs.

(Pretty much all of the above will be for sale soon)

Will try and keep this up to date as best I can :)

Looks like your starting off in the right direction mate, weight loss is the best performance mod in a Clio.... Good choice in seat too, I have 2 in mine. Vey comfortable and certainly up for the job! They are the same as the genuine cup racer seats seemingly...... Looking forward to watching this grow, I like the liquid yellow route, its great to see something a little different from the norm :)

Thanks for the kind words mate! Yea it's been used round track quite a bit already but just in fairly basic form, really aiming to take it to the next level :)

Anything engine wise you would suggest? I was planning to keep it as is to be honest as it's been reliable for me and rolling Roaded 182.2 bhp which I was quite happy with.

Next on the shopping list is a descent set of coilovers

If anyone is interested here is a video of the last track session I did in the car a few weeks back, there's some more videos on my account of cadwell and the ring too :)

Made a start stripping off all the sound deadening....I know it anal but the bag weighed 7kg so well worth the afternoons work....just need to paint stripper off the glue and then the interior is ready to be prepped for paint.

Anyone got any photos of their track car interior? Need some inspection for dash board/ custom switch panel configuration :)

  Clio 182 FF
Another build for me to watch and get some ideas from

I've just bought my first Clio last week with theintention of using it as a track toy - so this is ideal.

I'm not sure whether to go all out - like you are now, over the winter, or use it as is (particlaly modified) and get a few track days in before pulling it all to bits and making it more track focessed.

Will keep an eye your progress

Cheers for the kind words!

Well I've had mine for over a year now and used it daily for that period of time as well as doing a fair few track days, a descent set of brake pads and some eibachs along with some half descent tyres and you can really have fUn on track!

I'd say get used to the car first, learn it's strengths and weaknesses and go from there :)

Will keep this updated as much as possible!

Woohoo a weekend off! And even more of those to come now as I've just got a new job working for audi which means every weekend off :)

So today I fitted the vibratec engine and gearboxmount along with the powerflex polybushed dogbone....gutted I can't take it for a spin to see how it feels as it's off the road but I look forward to that!

Also side mounts came for my seat today :)

Next I need to find what suspension I want to run :/

Nice build.
Was the earlier video just on springs and decent pads / tyres?
Ive already got cooksports on mine so a new set of pads and 888s and I'm going to sling mine on track. Did you find it pretty planted even though it wasn't on coilies?

getikte

ClioSport Club Member
That video was on standard cup shocks with eibach sportline springs, carbon Lorraine RC5+ pads and toyo T1R tyres which I never used to rate but they held on pretty well round that track.

I did a fair few track days at that spec and it was brilliant! just wanted to go all out on this build through the winter so I had something completely track focused next year :)

LeeRS

ClioSport Club Member
I had the t1rs on the road and thought they were decent enough.

Are you going for the LY inside too?

Will look mint with a black cage :)

getikte

ClioSport Club Member
They get a bad rep but with the pressures low enough on track they were fine!

Aye LY inside and out :) brembos are going red, all windows apart from front screen are going lexan so yea, should look and go quite well I hope :)

  Clio 182
What spring rates have you gone for with your BC's if you don't mind me asking, where did you get them from?
Looks good so far, mine's a track car only and coming on slowly......weight saving is on my list but just all adds up so quickly buying fibreglass panels etc doesn't it!!

getikte

ClioSport Club Member
Spring rates are 10kg front and 8kg rear dude, got them through kam racing, they were spot on so come highly recommended if you are considering a set!

Yea plenty weight to be saved, I'll be getting it on a weighbridge once it's all finished, I've no idea what sort if weight ill see.....All the sound deadening is removed, all glass is lexan other than the front screen, fiberglass bonnet and bootlid. Roll cage adds a bit but I'd hope to be around 950kg ish

  Clio 182
I've already got a set actually and bought them from Kam Racing last year funnily enough! I'm toying with the idea of changing spring rates as they're too soft as supplied as their 'track' springs (5kg up front).....the only trouble is by ramping up the fronts so stiff it won't be very well balanced with the rear which could promote understeer I guess! It's such a shame the bc's aren't spring on damper Coilovers on the rear as well so you could play with spring rates both ends :/
I would imagine 950kg wouldn't be unrealistic for yours mate

getikte

ClioSport Club Member
BC do make custom rear springs I believe mate, I emailed a few companies about what the best rates to go with for my spec was which is why I settled on 8 and 10.

And yea hopefully! Will get it weighed once it's all done

  Clio 182
I phoned BC today about mine and they only offer the 8kg spring rate for the rear, due to the spring being a progressive design and not the linear type on a proper coilover....shame which I told their technical guy!
Only thing to bare in mind is that because they're an inboard spring the ratio is something like 2:1 so the 8kg rears will be roughly half of that compared with a proper coilover (4kg).
All trial and error, I've ordered some 8kg fronts to try as they weren't expensive!
Where abouts are you, I live like 10 minutes from castle combe so there pretty regularly if you're ever this way :)

getikte

ClioSport Club Member
Yea it took me a good while to settle on the correct spring rates but after emailing a few companies and them all saying pretty much the same thing I went for that :) I'm on Newcastle mate there's not much round here other than Croft :( wouldn't mind a trip to castle combe though
