36k Service with Aux belt change

  White APE
Hi guys.

Got this service coming up in a few k miles.

What should i be looking at paying for this? I poppped down to my local Reno today to see what they would try and rip me off with

They quoted me £580!!

  182 Cup
I was quoted £665.96 from Motorline and £620.48 from another stealer. A specialist will do the work much cheaper. I'm off to Mark Fish for mine - and he's not known as being cheap!

Id want the cambelt done for that price, whats the point in going to reno these days either I dfont get that? they charge the most and have mongs that know he haw!!

Yeah it was a right goon I spoke to on the phone and I'm beginning to think he might have quoted me for the cam belt instead!

  White APE
Esactly. I told em' where they could shuv that quote.

Can anyone recommened a decent garage in the Guildford area that can do the service etc a a reasonable price?

i work in a renault garage and it is so dear because thay alow 6 hours to do it

Yes, six hours at one miiiiilion pounds an hour!!!

Had mine done yesterday, 36k without aux belt, £264.00.

Gonna get aux and cam (when needed) done by a friend as renault wanted an arm, leg and me crown jewels for the rest!!!

Needed the service stamp of a Renault dealer for the service cos im a bit anal like that.

^be careful if the aux belt fails it will take out the cambelt too (99% of the time) = hello new engine and a big bill

Had mine done last week too, coat around £250 in total and all renault parts were used,
try and go to a renault specialist rather than the dealer if you can. :)

  Current ride - my Adidas!
I've got mine coming up in about 4k too so any recommendations in E/Mids area would be welcome. I'm doin about 6 or 700 miles a week so won't take long to reach it :( I used to get my old DCis serviced at Richard Sanders in Kettering as they were contract hire vehicles but this one will be comin outta my pocket. Double :( Halfpint I'm drivin same model/colour as u, let us kno how u get on with the service in the end.....

Another CS thread with people who are shocked at how much the running costs for their car are, oh the surprise, lol.

Why does nobody these days do their homework on what it costs to actually run the car they are buying. Everyone just seems to look at the screen price on the dealers forecourt and then think "I can afford that" and buys.

  White APE
Blinkin i'll let you know how i get on.

Can anyone recommened somewhere in my local area?

  Alfa Romeo 145 QV
The cambelt doesnt need changing until 72k or 5 years, whichever is sooner.
If my 182 doesnt sell, i will be needing a 36k service soon.
I was looking at using K-Tec as they charge £210+ vat (inc aux belt change)

  Mondeo TDCi
went to renault in crawley down, 36k service aux and cam belt charged 880. To top it off the told me needed discs and pads allround total service cost 1557. i was not impressed but a mug for taking it to renault. learnt from that never again.

  A shiny black one.
The reason a Dealer quotes are so high is that they also change the tensioner (might be mispellllled) along with the aux belt kit which needs 4.5 hours of labour, i was told that the tensioner (mbm) would only need to be done at 72000 mile service with second aux belt kit and cam belt!

The reason the dealer quotes are so high is because they charge £80+ an hour, The tensioner gets changed because thats the part thet fails not the belt generally

Mines due easily in a few weeks got a quote of £387 inc VAT from Mark Fish and that was without an airfilter.

I was in shock at that I was expecting it to be around the £300 mark max but I am actuall thinking of taking it to Mark on the Basis he really is crtitically aclaimed on here

Whay is K-tec so much cheaper than everywhere else!?

Is it because they just change the belt intself and not the full kit with tensioners etc?

I doubt they just change the belt, its usually the tensioner that fails and not the belt. The kit is about £120 for renault parts, less for different make. Its probably the hourly rate and the time in which they do it. Some places can do it in 1.5 hours and have a good hourly rate. mine cost £162 for reno parts and 1.5 hrs labour

They can't be making much money then, by the time they take off £120 for the belt kit and then the other service parts like oil, oil filter, air filter, etc.

Sorry that was just aux belt, no service. Had service done in stealers for the stamp
