Dedication,
Dedication,

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

Have something in mind to replace the fan unit, Not sure it will work yet but its in keeping with the normal Burpspeed way.
After searching the local breakers yards for a non aircon heater fan & not finding one, I decided to do something different.

Got a mk5 Escort fan unit for £8!

IMAGE_083.jpg

Now the task of making it fit the Clio.

IMAGE_085.jpg

First I cut the top off the clio heater fan inlet, leaving just the base plate to work with.

IMAGE_086.jpg

I cut the original mounts off the Escort fan, Then trial fitted the base plate to it.

IMAGE_087.jpg

First trial fit & I had a slight clearance issue.

IMAGE_088.jpg

Very quickly sorted!

IMAGE_089.jpg

I then drilled & bolted the base plate to the fan unit.

IMAGE_090.jpg

Voila!

IMAGE_091.jpg

The fan overhangs slightly so I made up a little blanking plate so the wind doesn't escape.

IMAGE_092.jpg

The finished item.

IMAGE_093.jpg

All fitted in its New home & wired up. I'm only going to run a one speed (fastest) fan, as its purely for demisting the screen in wet weather. So took off the resistor pack.

IMAGE_094.jpg

Loads of room to the wiper linkage & motor, its all good.

Also the Escort fan is around 1kg lighter than the Clio one! :rasp:

dude....great work on the fan...but talking from experience the fan will be a total pain, the gf's 206 had only the fastest speed for a long time and it just gets irritating.

however i spose this is really a no holds bared car so may be fine

Not a massive update but quite a nice weight saving.

Under the engine mount is a useless lump of iron

IMAGE_130.jpg

Hows this then?

IMAGE_128.jpg

Burp: Is this easy to remove? Can you do it with the engine and engine mount in-situ?
I've got one on my 182 and might have a crack at removing it.

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

Its a 15 min job to undo it lol

* remove the splash gaurd
* support the engine on a jack
* un-do the 3 main bolts on the engine
* un-do the 4 bolts from the engine mount
* Remove the bugger burpspeed style!

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

Sounds easy, but I have visions of collapsing jacks and engines lying in the street!
