how else can we know if you can afford it??

get some insurance quotes,
and do you intend to do all the work/servicing yourself??

Loads of people on here got them at 19/20.

Insurance can be found for a reasonable price, it just takes work.

well I teach disabled and abused kids, I earn a fair wage i can afford the car's maybe i worded the question wrong.! Am more looking for prices people pay!
Sorry if i posted the question wrong guys.

My advice is pick up the phone, get a few quotes and find out the answer yourself.

I got my 172 when I was 20... Insurance being just under £1200 at the time.
That was with 1 years no claim (as id been on my dads previously :( ) and a clean licence.
Also, im a full time university student and work at my local leisure centres, if that makes a difference.

Prices range from £1500 onwards to £5000, i payed 1800 at 19 with a crap postcode and 1ncb but that was on a 2.0l conversion so might be a tad cheaper than a standard 1*2.

Totally depends on your area mate.

Thanks for that I was more doing it as research more then anything I will ring company's that's a granted I would of thought!.

tonksy do you know how you would find out if you live in a good or bad area for insurance? Apart from the obvious hoodys attacking people and stuff ha.

1 person's quote is going to be completely different to your own. There are so many dependable factors built into your premium... you really are better off just ringing round and finding the best quote, then working out if you can afford it along with the general running costs of the car.

For example... tyres £320, tax £250, 30mpg, £500 5 year service etc etc.

Yeah thats a good point mate cheers il have to work this out on my own. Didn't think this question threw.

Sorry il sit in the corner of shame.

Im 20, will have 3 years ncb, not sure about postcode etc etc, no points...

Im paying £720 FC on a 1.2, 2 added drivers (women), i tried a quote on a 182, started at £2200, After adding 2 women drivers, and adding an aftermarket exhaust (cant remeber what i added) and upping the excess to £500 on bell direct it was around £1400

Nearer the time in December im going to phone around more, 2 of the 3 years NCB are as a named driver but bell counted those as NCB...

Hoping for around £1200-1400, obvious less is win...

If i dont get around that figure i cant afford a sport :(

Just got hold of my insurance company direct line for a 172 fully comp 1.478 :( ,Bit of a step up from 780 but could be worth it.

Its because insurance companies dont want inexperienced drivers to drive powerful cars.

The 172 and 182 are the same category because they are almost the same car.

Newer cars are generally safer for passengers and pedestrians, so are a lower group.

Willing to go tpft? These cars arent worth much so might aswell imo.

I'm 20/2ncb/3 year licence/no points or accidents/low risk postcode to most insurers/low risk job

Cheapest fully comp was just over £1600, tpft is £1000.

I'm 21. No no claims at all as my girlfriend and I have shared a car until now. Paying £800 a year on a 172 cup.

And the 182 isn't a higher group because it's no faster than a 172. Why would it be more?

I got my 182 at 19, paid £1800 FC for it with 2 ncb.
Try all the specialist companies, Adrain Flux for example, I paid a lot less for it being on a modified policy too.

I think fUbAr has cleared it up tbh.

You need to do a quote and take into consideration the costs of the Clio. Not just insurance. You have petrol, tax and service costs.

  FF 182
i'm 22, 1 years no claims, driving for 5 years, £905 fully comp on the 182 with admiral with mum on as named driver, bought it down by £200, not that she will ever be allowed to drive it :)

My mates on trade licence, I havent spoke to him in ages saying that though..

Can anyone get a trade licence?

Hes driving a 3.2L a3, when everyone else is driving piddly engine cars...

Also stupid question, If your on your own policy 3rd party and you dont crash for the year you still get a years NCB yes?

If you are asking on a forum instead of ringing up some insurers..........you probably can't afford it.

I got my 182 the month after I turned 20, medium risk post code, 1ncb, no points, 1 crash non fault. I'm £1500 tpft still a crap price and that was after phoning around. £2300 was best I got for fully comp.

Lol to moaning about 2000ish to insure a sport! I am 19 with a 1.2 16v with a clean licence, no crashes, 2 years NCB, low risk postcode, pass plus, off road parking and the best I can get is 1800 for fully comp! The first year was 2300 and second year was 2500 and my mods don't even effect my policy or its price

You must be able to get better than that! When I was 19 I insured a Williams for £800! Using Money Supermarket? Confused.com and a few others never get me the best price, also add at least one parent as a named driver, legal and saves over £100 for me.

Also stupid question, If your on your own policy 3rd party and you dont crash for the year you still get a years NCB yes?

Yep.
