Clio 182 05 plate - no power when accelerating - please help

  clio sport 182 2005
Hi all

I have an 05 Clio Sport 182 - when i put the foot down, at any speed or any gear i get a little of normal acceleration the it feels like it's misfiring (or like i have gone from 2nd to 5th at 30 mph) i have replaced plugs, HT leads, coil pack and engine temp sensor and throttle body, and still have same problem, i struggle to get above 50mph - reason i changed temp sensor is that when its disconnected it runs almost as normal.

any suggestions or advice would be GREATLY appreciated !!

Hi, I had symptoms like you've described on my old Fiesta, turned out to be a duff MAF sensor.

Looks like the Clio uses a MAP sensor instead of a MAF sensor but If its faulty I suspect it will cause similar symptoms..

I think you can clean them.. but admittedly I'm not an expert!

thanks for that but i already swapped the maf with another clio sport (cheaper than buying one for no reason) and still had the problem :(

clip is diagnostic reader!

checked the lambda? usually causes terrible running.

perhaps change the temp sensor. unplugging it probs causes the ECU to run with a default value. and perhaps when plugged in it throws a wrong value causing the engine to run terribly.

i know in the fuse box under the bonnet theres 3 black relays in a line about the size of 3 black sugar cubes i know they control the throttle but its normaly when the revs go mental there broken but to be fair take them out file the tips then put them back it cant hurt to try it im not promising anything if u can try your friends if u know any one with a clio sport that might help incase there completely fookd they can be bought from renault for £12 each

changed the temp sensor today (only cost £18 :) ) but still the same - im prob wrong but thought the lambda sensor never did much IF there was no cat ?

as for the diags reader - had it connected to VAG reader and only fault is came up with was cos there is no cat ( is vag crap compared to CLIP ? )

and again im prob wrong but would hae guessed if was lambda sensor then prob would not have been as sudden as it was - was away camping at weekend and drove almost 300 miles with absolutely no probs at all - only started happening yest morning ?

..just another thought - when one of the injectors packed up on my old Fiat Coupe it would start ok, rev ok on the drive but once moving it would run rough as soon as I put my foot down.

The tired injector was supplying enough fuel to keep the engine running ok when it wasn't under load but couldn't supply enough fuel once it was moving.

But the faulty injector did spit out a fault code and I would have expected a clio to do the same.

Might be worth investigating if you run out of ideas..

look before just replacing stuff.
get it diagnosed first clip (the renault diag tool) is the best as its built for a job
a specialist is your best bet. where are you based

Mine died like a mofo when putting my foot down, turned out it was a fudged injector.

Idled normal, revved normal, in gear and foot down garblled and shuddered along, ease the power on, fine for a while then started again.

Still, best thing is to take it to a specialist and have them diag it before throwing parts at it imo :)

It's a lot easier to diagnose an injector when they have died completely.. just unplug them one at a time, the one that doesn't make the car run even worse is the problem!

When it happened on my Fiat Coop, the ECU spat out an error and even told me which injector had failed!

If only fault codes were always that accurate!

have you put 95 ron supermarket fuel in it? mine does exactly this when I use cheap fuel, put 97 RON or above in and its absolutely fine
