Clio 182...what do you dislike?

  Turbo LY R27
I have driven the 197 and didnt think much of it.

Was not as quick as the 182 but did have better brakes than a standard 182. But most 182 have the brakes uprated anyway.

Was only joking lol! Not tryin to start thread 34567890 of 182 vs 197.

Im not too fond of the steering wheel or the standard seats but bar that i love mine and am still not bored of it after three and half years ownership!

I can see why there could be many dislikes for a 360 driver mind! ;)

  Clio 182
Mine still makes me smile after 5.5 years!

The seats (for all you complaining) suit me perfectly, on the highest setting! That and the low ish dashboard and low steering wheel fit me just right (unlike the 197 where I couldn't see properly when I sat in it!).

I don't really dislike anything about it, hasn't had any problems either and so far been very reliable. :approve:

The little annoying rattle on the centre console that's always been present on my clios, melting steering wheel. I'd say that's it. Hence why I went from a 172 to a 182. Good cars IMO.

I dislike people who own 182's but do nothing but go on about how crap the are,if you don't like it then get rid and buy some other pile of sh1t.

The driving position is abit iffy but my main qualm with them is the fact there not very bucket like - The trendlines should've come standard with all 182's in my very honest opinion!

Mine has been very reliable thus far too but then so have all my Clios in my seven years of driving......Testament to the owners more than the car if the unreliabilty others bang on about is anything to go by! ;)

I would imagine that anything that you drive like you've just escaped from jail will fall apart eventually, but treated with a bit of care then no trouble.Seating position could be better but I can live with it.

Can't believe it's take this long............... Pics of the Ferrari.

I like my 182, I don't find the seating position as bad as the 172 but I guess that's the subframes and the Recaros.

Steering wheel is too big.

Cold start is ok but quite hesitant like it's holding back even on light throttle which others get.

It does rattle ALOT too, but that's about it.

Stupid place to put a shift light, why bother if its going to be small and in the bottom corner.

Would have loved a oil temp gauge, some sort of gauge set out like the Williams.

Silver seatbelts, They get dirty as f**k

other than that, love it.

  182
i really enjoyed driving my 182, i didnt mind the seat hight as im a short arse, gearbox wasnt that nice, but not the worst by a long shot. cheap quality build.

my problem came when i came to work on it. im a honda man really, thats why in back in a civic. reno really did a good job putting things in, in an awkward mannor.

i didnt enjoy working on it at all. i used to dread working on it. and why all the torque/star fitting screws. and for a 5 year old car, far to many bolts where corroded or siezed.

also being into honda's , the crazy amount of money that is required to squeeze such a small amount of power from the engine

Its not a shift light.

For me, its the big steering wheel. Does my nut in, and will be getting changed.

Other than that i love it, it used to rattle, but ripped out everything that could :)

I love my 182, can't fault it, others attempt to fault it because it's 'french' but all it takes is for them to have a quick gun around in it with me and they love it.

Ride height is spot on for me personally, felt like I was in a bus when I first got it as you're quite low down in a corsa but soon got used to it.

Only thing I would change, and im being picky are the different coloured plastics on the pillars and that, you think they'd keep everything black

  Seat Leon FR
So why does the steering wheel melt then? Just made of crappy materials? or doesnt it like heat too much?

  GW 200
Here goes ...

uncomfortable seats with poor lumbar and shoulder support, routemaster steering wheel, steering wheel melts, steering wheel has no reach adjustment so you practically gotta sit on the thing to use it, everything made of plastic rattles, erratic idle and jumpy drive from cold start, stupid silver seat belts, dumb auto wipers, mis-mash of interior trim colours - some parts dark blue, some black, some silver ??? , car tax and insurance is high, no possible way of significantly improving performance without having to remortgage (some could say this is because it's already so good the next steps up are very expensive), exhaust is made of tin foil, exhaust mounts are made of wrigleys gum, poorly designed brake calipers (should be like whats on the 197), and cheapo surrender monkey work striking french build quality.

But i still love it, and always wanted one ;)

what is it then, comes on when its going to make you a coffee? Burger? Tea?

It comes on for the best time to gear change, so to me its a shift light

Various manufacturers read chat forums about their cars in order to get honest feedback.

They can then try and improve the next model.

Personally i've had no trouble with my Clio. None of this melting steering wheel, or bad starts when the car is cold.

Everything works perfectly and i've had the belts changed a few months ago even though I only have 33k miles on the clock. But saying that it's an 04 plate so had to be changed anyway.

f**king hell lads. I was seriously thinking of getting rid of my escort Rs turbo and getting a 182. These comments have really put me off. Looks like I'm gna have to keep looking at the focus st170.

Seriously, I LOL'd.

It's an over-rev warning light.

Dont be silly - ST170 Focus's are nothing on the Clio!

For value for pounds you will never find a better hot hatch imo....Go drive one (if you havnt already) and see for yourself!

Where abouts are you based? Essex? RS Turbo country and all that! ;)

Mate most people know the bad bits about RS clios before they buy them, this doesn't stop them because the good points out do the bad.

I drove a LOT of hot hatches before I settled on the 182.

This is a good car.

Yeah sure you can buy a Focus RS or a Mini Cooper Works, or a Honda S2000, Porker Boxster....but for the money a 182 in a good'un.

Cheap and very cheerful

Nothing wrong with mine on cold start - it starts with the key idles around 1300rpm for afew seconds and slows to around 1100rpm until it's warm. It does however, I assume like all 182s, have a lumpy cold map which I assume is what people have the problem with but this goes away after a mile or so, the car drives fine though, but it's driven gently so don't know what 3000rpm and beyond is like when it's cold.

Someone mentioned "image and stigma" not sure what that refers to as I don't think they have an image problem - if anything it probably has one of the better images for a hot hatch unlike stuff like Civic Type Rs (shadey) and Fiesta STs (always seem to be driven by people who have a penchant for tracksuits).
It might not quite have the same "classier" image of say a Mini Cooper S but it's on the right side IMO.

I find the steering wheel fine too, it doesn't feel to big to me and I'm used to a preety small 330mm wheel in my BMW. The OP also says he has an F360 which I doubt has a big wheel either!

I have no prob with the 182 steering wheel.

What is an OP?! Or should I not ask?! :D

Pic of the steering wheel...WHU air freshner has pride of place...and the engine bay :D

Nothing bothered me about mine. Had no issues at all with the steering wheel and didn't notice it running badly from cold.

It had a squeaky parcel shelf but I just used to turn the stereo up!

Loved that car.
