Clio 182 Whining

Yo

So the 182 has developed a whine. When on throttle, it sounds like I have a supercharger, which is awesome, BUT, it isn't going to be healthy for the car.

It does it when I'm out of gear as well, so sat stationary, in neutral with light revs it still whines, and matches the revs, getting higher pitched as the revs get higher. I'm guessing this means its not gearbox, but to be honest, I don't have a clue.

Any help would be great!

try taking the aux belt off and see if it still whines? will atleast narrow it down a bit... i had a noisy altinator a while back, bearings were gone...

Yes, the alternator on mine was shot and whining when I bought it. You may as well change the belt and tensioner when you change it.
