Clio V6 Help!

  V6 PH1
Hi there,

Just joined the forum as looking to buy a Mk1 V6, was hoping to get some comments. Been to look and and drive one today and seems to drive well but havnt ever driven another one.

Do they all have kind of an induction noise, it was really noticable like an induction kit?

The car has done 48,000 miles. It has a complete service history but signed from the owner himself (i.e no stamps) he is a foreman at a Jaguar garage and has recipts for all the parts (including cambelt) but would this put anyone off? I have checked the old MOT's and the mileage seems genuine but was worried for residuals as ant it to hold its money.

Finally the steering wheel seems really worn and the drivers door handle (interior) are there any simple replacements for these?

Thanks in advance for your help guys!

Do you have a link to the ad ?? It does make an induction noise yeah, the fans are pretty looud when they kick in too (passenger side vent area)
What is your budget ?

The steering wheels do go manky as they are rubbish quality, so a re-trim or a different wheel is required. The door trays can be cleaned up, it's the cotaing on them that gets grubby, they can be refurbished though.

(I've got a mk1 vee btw)

The steering wheels wear really badly (even more so if you wear rings) the seats only really wear on the bit you sit on (if your wallet is in your back pocket it'll make the seat bobble a bit) easily fixed though.

With regards to that car, check out v6clio.net to see if it's on the owners register. It has a high build number so is likely to be an import (and therefore no factory fitted tracker)
I'd check that it isn't recorded tbh. A decent mk1 will still fetch 10k all day long imo (some go for more)

If he has a lot of paperwork for it, then it's not too bad (I personally wouldd want a stamped book & invoices etc, but that's me) proof of cambelt change is a complete must tbh.
Also I see that the side pods are black, I guess they have been sprayed as they are colour coded on the mk1's.

I've never seen that car before by the way. How many owners has it had ?? Tbh though loads of them have a high number of owners, so don't be put off.

The build number of it tells you if it's an import or not (technically they are are though) as the numbers quite high it is one (don't worry about it though) as a tracker can be fitted later on if you want one, they make little or no difference to your insurance though (mine doesn't at all)

oh so i should tell them its an import? i did some quotes and it made next to no difference with a tracker or not. is there anything else i really need to look out for? are there any cheap places for brakes? and is there a simple replacment for the steering wheel?

once again thanks for your help

How do you know the previous owner was a jag mechanic?

If its going on the word of the salesman, i'd be a bit warey!!

  V6 PH1
it is but he said that the owner is happy to talk to anyone about the history of the car. i am really not sure, love the car, feels nice and tight still and they are offering me good money on mine so trying to work out if the V6 will hold its money ok when i come to sell it in or year or so

IMO it seems only the low mile/generally mint condition examples are holding decent money when it comes to high residual values, rarer colours in particular

thats what i was afraid people would say lol, unless they offer me a deal I cant refuse may have to stay shopping

I know Glenn @ Churchs performance cars having bought a DC5 from him, I can vouch that he only trades in quality cars.
One of the good guys.

This one is one of the better v6s Churches have listed recently.

So inside it looks like it's been driven and hopefully enjoyed.
Yes it is a non UK spec v6 (nothing to worry about)
You may not want to sell it in a year or so. :)
Side pods were either replaced by choice or by need. Check for previous accident history.
Ideally have it inspected by someone who specialises in this model.

the no stamps thing is a worry, i would say proof of servicing and the cambelt is a must. Is there any paper work to go with it?

the side pods will cost an arm and leg to return to standard, i think there about £500 each? bear that in mind if you want to change them!

personally id try and knock money off the price because of them if you do the deal, the carbon pods are copies, not originals.

the steering wheel and door grab are a common thing and would not put me off at all.

Maybe even £863.82 each ;)

You could buy a used 172 for the cost of 2 sidepods. :)

I wouldn't worry about resale value fella. One you probably won't want to sell it. I bought my Ph1 Vee to use for a year and then buy a UR Quattro. Thing is I don't want to get rid now lol Secondly, so long as you take care of it and keep it in good nick it will definatly not loose any value, only gain. Remember when Mk1 and 2 Escorts were just a few quid......

Try buying the Ph1 Fog surrounds!! 300 quid plus vat each!! I got Streamline Carbon to remold mine in carbon for a third of the price.

guys thanks for your help, this is by far the most useful forum i have found! didnt realise the side pods werent standard but actually quite like the black ones ;). They have offered a fairly good deal including my car as p/x just working on the finer details (they are already going to get the wheels properly repaired as a few marks on them). thanks mace but getting rid of mine is half the problem sold. there is no obvious accident damage and it is HPI clear.

If your willing to head as far Swindon (just past) then I can recommend SG Motorsport. He specialises in V6's.

Enjoy it aswell mate, awesome little cars for fun factor.

Even though I'm selling it, it still sticks a massive smile on my face every time I get in it. Don't even think I'm going to replace because for the same price bracket I can't think of anything I'd want that has the same impact.

A few little things I would check are:
Take the outer engine covers off and make sure all the screw are present. They are £100+ each from Renault.
CD Changer has the case holder in it.
Air Con works
Tool kit is complete
Front rubber splitter is present?
Obviously any sign of accident damage.
Engine tray underneath is present.
Check the front tyres they wear more on the insides so they may be worse than you think.

Thats a few picky things.

thanks mate, havent checked the CD player but going to change it anyway, air con is something i will check though, where will I find the tool kit? Front rubber is there and in good condition and wow they are some expensvie screws!
cheers again

The tool kit is the black box on the left hand side when you open the boot, it should have velcro straps round it.
