Different service light question

I have used the search function before anybody says, and I now know the service light doesn't come on when its due a service. But in my current car I can do a pedal test to see what the fault code is, is there something similar with Renault or is it a code reader job ?

Whereabouts are you? Maybe some local with one can plug it in.

I thought I'd done all the checks, and it was just a service due light. Why can't all cars have a standard system ?
