Gtechniq G1

  Ph2 Flamer
Spent yesterday using G4 glass nano polish to tidy up the 10yr old glass on the car followed by G1 clear vision smart glass. Just thought I'd post this up and say the 15ml bottle for under a tenner is fantastic. Have previously used rain-x but this is way better and apparently lasts 30,000 miles.

Easy to apply and on driving off this morning with a really fine beaded dew all over the screen, the water soon started rolling up the screen once I got some air moving over the car and was clear pretty quickly without any need for the wipers. C

heck the first video out on the website, that's exactly what happens. Can't wait for some heavy rain now to see how it copes. Great product for winter and pretty much makes your wipers redundant.

It's easily the best glass sealant on the market.

I've had it on mine for avout 2 minths now. 3 layers .
Still working away like new. I've seen it after a year on a friends jeep and it's still like new.

mines been on for about a month until it went near a Ford dealer. Picked the car up and they'd washed it against requests not to.

Has stripped both AF Desire that was sitting on tough coat and DJ SNH, no beading or sheeting left. most of the trim had AF revive and that is now all patchy, even attacked C4 on the front grille as that was gone hazy. G1 on the front screen is still there but not as fast acting as it was.

any idea on topping up G1, is it a full strip back and start again or try a single layer and buff off with G2? Generally though G1 is outstanding, much preferred to G3

^ Yeah i thought only acetone or something to that strength would remove it.

Applied this to my 1.2, was great however in the rain the water sheeted through the window any time i had it open!!

Still going to apply this to the 182 soon.

Need to buy some G1, but still have G3... anyone know the shelf life if this? i suspect fine because it was quite watery and ok with a good shake? its less than a year old.

Don't know what they used but it's pretty bad, even started to attack the blue wheel centre caps, haven't tested the wheels yet as the fronts had C5 on.

I've had G3 sitting in the shed since late winter / start of spring 2011 and was fine when I tried it recently,

b******s. My mums car is protected with Body wrap which suprisingly is doing really well, c5 on the wheels and rain racer on all windows except the front. Im not looking forward to it going for services etc.

This was a life saver (possibly literally) on the way back to London. Torrential rain meant people were using fog lights and going 30mph on the m6. I tootled along at 50 with the Quattro and sheeting working well

The faster you go, the quicker it hoofs over the roof.

*NB: Don't speed, kids.

Theres a vid on YouTube if you search on g1 gtechniq of someone using all sorts to remove g1 from his drivers window and then showing it still repels the water. So whatever they used on your car must have been brutal!

Gave the car a good proper wash this afternoon, trippled and re waxed, couple of goes with glass cleaner and sheeting has returned, not working quite so well at lower speeds but works at 55/60 onwards again.

will give it another layer over the weekend to bring it back to life.

Rain racer? You dissapoint me young Toby!

Why?

Its not wiper proof, but on side windows itll give 2-3 years durability. Ive been using it for a good few years now.....

All windows except the front ?! What's on that...

Nothing.

OP, maybe you could try wiping down with IPA or something? The nano structure might be clogged up n s**t. G1 is some tough stuff, did they wash your car in paint stripper?

What cloths do you guys use after going over with the G2? The vid says just a 100% cotton job. Reason I ask is I used a microfibre and even with three layers (15mins between layers as per my other thread) of the stuff on all windows I'm not that impressed by it, nothings starts shifting untill at least 50mph. Thinking maybe the microfibre is too dense and possibly removed part of the G1?

The water does bead up well on the wiondows though and clear nicely with the wipers etc.

Next time I wash the car I might try putting another layer on....

It's not a slow speed sealant mate. G1 is the town driving product but not wiper proof. Chances are the G1 is fine, I used an MF on mine and it was put on by a Gtechniq specialist with no hassles.

G1 for durability and motorway driving. G3 for low mile town driving.

Cool, that makes sense. For some reason I was under the impression that G1 started "working" at lower speeds 25/30mph.

In which case I am now very impressed with it as it does exactly what it's supposed to do perfectly :)

Other way around in the first part. G1 is 50+, G3 is 25+ mph.

My BMW has scratchs galore from teh windscreen wipers. Would something like this 'fill' them as well as offering the repeling advantages?

No. But glass correction is possible.

Worth checking how much your excess is for windscreens first though as its difficult and can be therefore expensive. Sometimes easier and cheaper to accidentally introduce it to a brick...

My windscreen does already have a little crack, been there for years.Excess isn't to bad, £60 I think, but my insurer records it as a Claim :(

If thats the case, are you saying that G3 performance falls away at 50mph+ compared to G1?

No mate it works fine at all speeds, G1 however doesn't work aswell at low speeds but at least you can use the wipers.

G1 is on another level.

also in that respect, I'm assuming G3 doesn't last as long as G1, and it's much more along the lines of Rain-x?

Longer than rain x but much much less than G1. Wipers ruin everything but G1.

Indded it's a bargain. Use it once. 3 coats on the front screen and one on the rest then sell it on here. Someone will bite your hand off.

That's surprising, the last four insurers I've been with didn't. Who are you with?

Admiral Multicar. Doesn't effect my NCB but does increase my premium.

I'd change insurer if teh Multicar quote wasn't so competitive!

I coated my lights and clusters with the rest of mine.

Would C4 be better for lights and clusters as they're plastic? I know most of the C1, 4, 5, etc are supposed to be very similar but wasn't sure about the G1 so haven't done the lights yet.
