HELP! 172 Wont accelerate past 2750rpm and warning lights on dash!!!

Jumped into the car today and when i went to pull away i knoticed a light on the dash. it looks like a heartbeat on a monitor. i thought ill give it a minute to see if it clears and carried on driving. thats when i realised that the bugger wouldnt rev. its ok under very light acceleration but when you hit 2500rpm it splutters a bit and wont rev past 2900rpm. ive tried switching the car off and then running it again only for another light to come on, this time on the bottom right of the dashboard. ive put a pic below to show the two lights on.

Any ideas?
thanks

ive just had a wee look under the bonnet and the induction kit is a bit dirty, could this be a contributing factor? if so whats the best way to clean it? ta

*UPDATE*
Jumped in the car today and the light in the middle of the dash didnt come on (the one that looks like a heartbeat) but the engine management light stayed on. today it drives fine, no power loss and will rev right up to the limiter with no problem.

yeah will do. i tried the in-dash minor fault finder thing today (by holding the button on end of wiper stalk before turning on the ignition) but it came up fault clear. im guessing the fault code will be stored in the other bit of the ecu

I have experienced that problem and it costed me a lot of time and money so Ill hope i can help you not to do the same :D

99% there is a problem with the loss of signal between TBW TB and ECU or throttle pedal. If that happens even 4 a millisecond ECU goes into safe mode and your dash looks like Xmas tree :D

Problem could be that the TB itself is malfunctioning and needs replacement too.

If I was you i would go like this

1. buy some contact spray and spray the connestors on ECU ( have to open it - teher is like 30 of them)

2. clean - shake all the conectors from pedal too TB ( u have like 3 of them)

3. If all of this does not help go and do Diagnostics

4. If diagnostics says that is is a TB issues ( they will see if there is a interruption of the signal, you can ask to do a test drive with you and monitor things in real time as you drive ) then your last option os to buy new TB. It is an expencive thing so do all of these thing before as I mentioned.

I did them all + I do a lot of track days and stuff and that thing was annoying me - everytime I went into a curve a laterla G force started to kick in I would have a problem. It is almost common practice for racin clios to do cable conversion among other reasons.

I did not went for that as my car is a daily driver and you lose code key and other usefull stuff but all of my connectors now are connected directly, no jacks anymore

If this thin happens while u drive there i a small trick to save time - switch off the engine while moving wait for a second or two and just star the car again, there is no need to pull over.

Hope I have helped

Cheers

well, update time, i have run the car for a week with the engine management light (due to work commitments i couldnt get it in to the dealers) and it has been running perfect. i took it on a bit of a run today and gave it some beans! ;) after that drive i left the car for about an hour then had to go back out in it. i started the car and much to my surprise the engine managment light went out. ive driven it again and all is well. it seems these wee clios have a self fix mechinism built in that renault fail to tell people about :D

I had the same problem with the same fault symbol. Took my car to fourashes renault specialist. The problem was faulty oxygen sensor and *lambord sensor (cant remember exactly what its called now). They also cleared the fuel out the car, just to rule out the fact it could have bein a dodgy batch of fuel. The parts are cheap labour killed me tho. Could me the same problem hope its sorted soon.

Hi,
I've got this error, from the first post, and after turn of and on the engine it does not show again and car runs right. The error shows on when I was in full throttle in 2nd gear. I will have a little disalingment on timing and could solve this just mid December.

I had this on a recent track day, plugged my OBD reader in and it gave the pedal position switch as the fault. Pulled the connector off and cleaned connections and popped it back on. No problems since
