Help ASAP - Running problem

When I worked on motors they had mechanical contacts and you could stand inside the engine bay to work on them.lol. So, you experts, why is it no re-maps on standard ecu have caused piston meltdowns like the Omex ones have?

maybe because you have to write the whole map from a fresh, on the standard one you are only changing parameters

Lol, me and phil have been in contact regarding this as exactly the same thing is happening to my car, on standard ecu...

So its not the map on the omex.

Lets hope its coil pack...

I'd say it's unusual for a coil pack to break down after under 10 k.
Does Stoddie have a receipt you could claim on?

Philthy, I had this exact same problem at one point and it was my crank sensor.

crank sensor is also new though fella - again could be.....

id say coil pack or leads although i did get a few healty shocks off them the other day so there is something going through it!

hmm, weird... I know when I had this exact same problem I had the crank sensor and another one replaced and it was fine after that though. Before it would basically start up fine, run fine then randomly start stuttering and misfiring and you'd get a horrible smell of fuel and it would cut out without any revs being applied.

sounds like it. you know what the other sensor was that you had replaced?

Just fitted the coil pack, still wont start... f**k.
 
if it wont start I'll bet it's the crank sensor, AA man will be able to tell you as mine took a while before it went... other sensor was air temp one iirc

did you get a warning light on the dash? Dunno if I would because of the omex.

You could tow it to Reno, but the sparkie would take one look at the butchered loom and have a heart attack. lol

also if you like i have a spare set of leads you can have for £10 (brand New)

Also i have my coilpack off and wont be needing it for a while.

if you pay for the postage you can borrow it and fit it to see if it is the root of your problems. :)

cheers ben, I have got a new coilpack now but might take up your offer of the leads if the crank sensor doesnt do the job!

A good thing to check would be the spark plugs once it cuts out....are they wet and covered in unburnt fuel? check the coloration as well. Would then cut a few of the other possible problems out.

Thats exactly whats happening.

How much is a crank sensor going to be? Will the aa man be able to tell its this if the problem isnt happening at the time, as it doesnt happen everytime.

Cant remember how much the crank sensor was, I paid Ric Wood about £500 to sort the car out as he's only down the road from me, but he RR'd it before and after and replaced a couple of worn bits n bobs, so not really sure... loads of help me! lol

Oh, AA man can tell if the crank sensor is working or not yeah, well, the one that came out to mine could. He said it was the Omex at first (at which point I s**t a brick sized turd), but I said it wont be, so he said in that case it's the crank. Eventually you wont even be able to start the car at all and it wont even have power going to the coil pack

Deff ' modded ones. You'll be ok as I'm sure Andy will warrant your conversion for a couple of months.

Spot on with the diagnosis jesus,

I took the plugs out (which have done 20miles) 2 of them were like new, mild carbon deposits, 1 and 4 were black as the ace of spades... lovely!!

thats ok then cause ain`t afford much more, f**kin skint after the works done, well at least for a few weeks ;)

okay went and cleaned the crank sensor cause it was covered in black grime, reattached it... nothing. It has been fitted with connectors not the new wiring loom. someones been cutting corners!

it still just turns over again and again. Ive disconnected the battery to reset the ecu and sensors etc

Think I need a new one then?

whats next? leads?!

Anyone know any good renault specialists in glasgow area?

the problem is not related to the conversion imo, sounds like a general problem. a decent specialist should be able to pin point it easily enough. end of the day these cars are 7-8 years old now

Will be related jon. All modified cars have the risk due to bits and pieces bein changed, taken off, put bak on etc.

Can the AA or such like not isolate the problem?
 
but as I've had the problem on mine and it was the crank sensor, air temp sensor and other people with standard cars are getting it I'd say it's more a general Clio problem. Andy diagnosed and fixed mine in under a day, any decent motorsport tuner will be able to diagnose and fix it imo

yeh agree, fire it into Falkland or AVA Phil. AVA are only....25mins from you! If that!
