how can i tell if i have damaged topend, valves etc

basically driving along today, big bang, one rib of aux belt shredded off, called rac they came out got me to turn it over, started up and ran, cleared up the shredded belt, and told me to drive home and he would follow, but before i did so, the car sounded absoluty fucked when reving.

was fine on idle, but when reving the car, it felt like it wanted to stall, and sounded really bad above 2000 rpm.

Drove car home (advice of RAC man) didnt go above 2000rpm and the noise didnt occure,

Have i got damaged valves or anything else that could cost me a fortune?

you might be ok m8. i advise you get that aux belt changed before you try any thing else. try not driving it tho you don't want that belt snappin n wrappin round the cambelt, then could be major.

Driving it was a big no no. Could have/probably has caused you a big bill fella!

Get it towed to your nearest specialist and get it looked at.

Sounds like the aux belt has snapped causing the usual cam belts jumps a few teeth. You will probably have to do a cam belt change as well now. Hopefully the valves themselves are ok. The noise your hearing above 2k rpm is probably the pistons hitting the valves.

Get a specialist to check it out. Hopefully u'll not have bust anything, but the RAC man should never have told you to drive it!

sounds like it's hitting when the vvt switches. The cambelts don't jump teeth, but when something causes an obstruction the pulleys can move as they're only a friction fit

What kind of f**king moron would tell you to drive that?!

I'd push it home before I drove, tbh.
