Hi guys,

After nearly 4 years of ownership my 172 Cup, HT53 HRM, I had decided to move onto something with lower running costs as the Wife and I are considering starting a family soon. On Sunday the Cup was part-exchanged against a Mk4 VW Golf GT TDI 130 PD in Silver, 53 plate.

Word of warning for anyone thinking of buying her from the independent trader in Bedford 'S M Specialist Cars', the mileage is actually 108,680 contrary to the advert.......it has about 4 owners not 2 and the cup doesnt have ABS or A/C as the advert says, idiots. The front fogs are not fitted, the undertray is not fitted, the alloys need a refurb and have no centre caps (I took the white ones off and fitted the wheels the car came with) the raceland coilovers are still fitted, the steering rack has play in it so steering has odd movement under braking (I have a new set of bushes in the garage but never fitted) the power steering system is leaking fluid (down the front of the engine bay by the power steering pump) and the near-side tyre has a slow puncture from a paint-chip inside the bead of the alloy. Also it has no tax on it (sent off to DVLA for a refund). I was a bit naughty and didnt mention the above when p/x-ing it but as they refused to accept a lower offer on the Golf they were not getting any help from me.

will still be about on here, and my love for RS Clios will never die. And you can never beat a bit of Cliosport.net banter!!!

Rob

Lol at not accepting a lower offer so palming off all the niggles along with it :D I do wonder if some dealer actually even check (or care) about some of the stuff mentionned.

When I collected it, the guy didnt even ask me about it, more fool him I say, just wanted to see the paperwork was all there. The car is fine, just needs a bit of work as above and some TLC to bring the mechanicals up to scratch! The Golf I bought was a good deal though even without him taking less £s for it.Thanks TooneySonic, glad to be of service! Sprogs AHOY lol!Back in the UK tomorrow (away with work atm) so will start popping stuff in the Marketplace soon!Rob ;)

In the pictures above they are Speedline Turinis, 2120's. Same as the standard alloys on the Cup but I bought a new set in gloss white rather than the standard silver.

Hi Rob

My brother bought your old car from SM. Not a bad car for the money, £1,700 he paid. They were a bit silly at the dealers. As you say wrong mileage, not AC etc.

It's up in the air at present after i just removed the power steering pipe. Should get it back together tomorrow. Yes the alloys are a bit shot, but we'll referb them and it needs a new set of tyres all round.

Did you spend the money on it, such as suspension, rear brakes etc? It also has a different engine from new, so did you put that in? Dont worry, i'm not out to catch you out, we sussed most of the items when we looked at it, and it seems a decent car for the money.

You said the rack has play in it so funny under braking. We did find the braking was funny at the front, but the car does have decent steering when driving. What makes you think it is the rack? We haven't looked into that yet, as we havent driven the car far due to the gallons of power steering fluid it was losing!! we collected it on a trailer.

My brother will get the car up to scratch, so keep an eye out for it.

Cheers

Dave

Contrary to my PM about waiting for your call, answers are as follows:

Suspension is a set of Raceland coilovers. Bought in a group buy on here last summer. Set to -45mm ish at the front and -40mm at the rear. Is about perfect for height vs speedbumps and looks pretty good too ;) was professionally alligned with 1.5 degrees of negative camber based on some research into good suspension setups on clios. I still have the standard suspension and also a set of Eibach Sportline springs (-30mm all round) in my garage.

Rear brakes (pads/disks/bearings are new) fitted by Northants Tyres 2 or so months ago. Rear n/s caliper was replaced following my last ever visit to a kwik-fit garage. See for info: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?492825-Urgent-advice-needed-possible-Kwik-fit-fail.

Engine was replaced Oct 2010 as the standard one had a cambelt roller collapse and lost its timing/probably wrecked the valves etc. New one was from tomtom172 on here, had approx 41,000 miles on when I bought it and fittes at approx 101,000 miles on my shell. Yes I fitted it myself. have a look at http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?534363-The-Cup-is-alive!&p=7094596#post7094596 and http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?530938-Well-there-goes-the-Cambelt.......

G
et in touch of you want any other info.

Cheers,

Thanks for the reply Rob. It's good to get some info on the engine, as we know it had been changed when we looked at the car.

I'm sure my brother will be in touch.
