Is Dephaser fail directly related to wrong Oil type or car not serviced at intervals?

  Renault Sport 182
My car has a fully dealer stamped service book up until 72K now on 80K but no reciepts for the cambelt or even auxbelt\pullys whats more i have a whine from somewhere round the belt area and a clatter from you know where!

My question is should the belt not have been changed as per service interval to get a stamp at the renault dealer?

Oh and the Dephaser pully...

Does anyone know what actually fails in the pulley, is blindly changing a dephaser pully because its making noise wrong without investigating why it failed in the first place as ive read on here that the specialist say its not a servicable part and in that case should it not last the life of the car?

Has anybody had one fail soon after its been changed or not last as long as it should?

Isn't the Dephaser controlled by hydraulic pressure using the cars engine oil, so is poor servicing of the car or wrong oil grade to blame for failure or do they just wear out, do they have fast moving parts inside that need lubricating or something?

Thanks

Iain

Yer spoke to North West performance and BTM the other day regarding the belt change as not sure what part of the country i will be in in the new year, will be having the lot done (knew this when i bought the car and got it £1000 cheaper).

there's a separate section in the service book for cambelt and aux belt stamps
