Jazzing up the Combo van.

I know mate and I knew you was going to say that!
The old 14" wheels are rusty and bleed rust over the tyre's when it rains.

So I bought 15" wheels with a lower profile tyre, this wouldn't look right on the van so it needed to be lowered...

Knock on affect, made perfect sense in my mind anyway. [emoji23]

Bit mental aren't i?

I don't drive the van fast mate, it's a van.
All I am trying to do is make it look a bit better, plus I've said to tania I won't spend anything on the impreza.

I get bored very easy so this takes up a bit of my time. [emoji4]

Next time you're bored you can take me shopping at Lakeside :up:

Thought i would up date this, i haven't had much time so its taken a while to do any work on the van. First of all it needed a service, brake fluid change, the rear brakes adjusting and on the last MOT it was said that there was play in the O/S ball joint.

Oh i also had a N/S leaking driveshaft oil seal even though id replaced both of them with gen Vauxhall items when i fitted another engine in 2015.

First job was to replace the leaking seal and while i was there i thought id remove the wish bone to inspect (id replaced both in 2013)

Yesterday i set about fitting the coilovers, the most exciting part of the job....😂
All went with ease, jacked up and ready.

Back on its wheels. Its hanging, i know it needs a bloody good wash and polish.

Today i lowered it a bit more, i still have another 10mm or so adjustment. I also set the damping to one full turn from soft (i think they have 3 1/2 turns from + to -) Drives fine, maybe a little bit firm when i change the wheels over to the 15" with the lower profile tyres.

Another from today after i had lowered it another 10mm, cant go any lower as the tyres are starting to rub the inner arches...
It will look lots better on the bigger wheels with skinnier tyre's, i will try and get the van washed and the other set of wheels fitted over the weekend.

I look forward to the weekend pics.

Its hard to tell with the van as it is atm.
Thanks mate, I'll see how the weather is but it's in desperate need of a clean.

Can't afford to go any lower. [emoji41]

Lol, do your tools rattle a lot now?

I bet it sounds like a f4r on cold start in the back of that van :D
I don't really carry anything in the back of the van mate, I collect my valeting bits when I want to clean the car's and my tool's if I want to do some work on any of them.
(I rent a garage to keep my stuff in which isn't near my house)

Day to day the van is empty, it gets used to go back and forward to work. [emoji2]

I think once I've washed it and fitted the other wheels with the 55 profile tyre's instead of the 70 profiles it's running at the moment it should look a whole lot better.

its rad ! cant wait to see what else you do :)
My sons tell me it looks sick, they are 12 and 13 though. [emoji23]

I won't be doing much more bud, I'll get the other wheels fitted tomorrow and give it a wash.

Wouldn't mind a better pair of front seats if a pair come up cheap enough. [emoji2]

Yesterday i wanted to fix the leaking coolant id been having. It wasn't much but every month id have to top it up a little bit. 😧

Id had a look and could see traces of coolant around the thermostat housing, so off to Vauxhall i went and ordered a new gasket and a thermostat while i was there.
I also ordered new stainless steel hoes clips to replace the manky ones.

Another little job done.

Today i fitted my 15" steel wheels and lowered the front as low as it will go...:tongueclosed:
While it was jacked up i had a look to see if the new gearbox drive shaft seal had fixed the leak i had, all seems to good so far.

Went to my garage and fitted the wheels, the one's i have fitted to the rear have had a coat of wax oil on the insides and a coat of Carpro Dlux. The pair fitted to the fronts have had nothing, they are hanging and in need of a clean and seal which i will try and do tomorrow.

Pair of wheels fitted to the front, rocking new P6000.

Its made quite a bit of difference to the ride fitting the lower profile tyre's, first thoughts are that they feel better/have more grip than the winter tyre's ive been running for years.
I need another visit to GAZ to sort out the rear springs and shocks, having a stiff front shows up how soft the rear is.

Thank you mate. I asked Tania to come outside and have a look at the van (i was over the moon how low it looked) She said that i was a dick for lowering it so much and how the hell was i going to be able to carry anything in it now. Im a stupid fcuk and should grow up....😞

She wanted to kick me in the teeth..... 😂😂

I told her i was going to lower her S60 if she didn't shut the fook up.... :tongueout:

Just read this. I've also got a combo dti but a crew van on a 54 plate. It's already got 280mm brakes and rear discs too. Didn't know they also come with drums at the rear

Your one will be the extra load one then mate, I'll still be keeping my drums at the rear.

Next weekend I will try and get the new set up fitted to the fronts as my current pads are getting low. [emoji2]

On the way home tonight i stopped off at elite wheels and tyres to get the tracking checked/adjusted and as i suspected it was miles out another thing that needs sorting is the camber.
The camber is 1.5 deg on the passengers side but 2 deg on the drivers, this will explane why the inner edges of my tyres have been getting worn out, im going to order some camber bolts, get them fitted and pop it back so they can set the cambers to 1 deg.

I was after another P6000 tyre as a spare, i had a look on ebay and these turned up. They was listed as used and one with 8mm and the other with 7mm of tread. When i looked at the listing i saw that the one listed as the 8mm was infact a new tyre!
Both bought on a BIN for a grand total of £47.50 delivered.
I needed a 15" tyre as a spare so i will use the 7mm one and keep the new tyre in my garage.

Next i wanted some kind of center cap to cover the hub nuts, i was cool with how the wheels looked but they did look like someone had nicked my hub caps....😂
After a bit of a search on google i wanted the center caps from a Nova, wasn't to sure if they would fit.

I found a set on Ebay for a BIN of £24 posted so i took a chance and bought them.

Ive tried them on and they fit my wheels.... They need a clean and then i can seal them with C5 tomorrow.

A couple more picts from today at work, im in talks with GAZ about making lowering springs for the rear, with nothing in the back of the van it could do with coming down another 20 mm.
