MK2 Project

So this is my first car, and i've just about owned it for 2 years now.
I've been constantly adding little bits and pieces and it's getting to the point now where I'm not going to be able to return it back to standard.
Basically, for whatever reason insurance on a sport is still sky high after 2 years of claim free driving (2 years ncb) and by the time I'll be able to afford to buy, insure and run one, the car I've got now is going to be worth peanuts. I'm not someone who can just wait around; I need something to keep me interested and occupied so this is why I've decided to go all out with this shell.
I want a proper project!

So this is how it started out:
An 02 reg Clio 1.2 16v 'Extreme' on 43K.

Brilliant first car. Absolutely over the moon with it! Left it standard for a good few months, but I couldn't resist any more!
So, along came RS Grille Colour Coding, a 172 rear end, Xenons and some cyrstal style rear lights that I sprayed to look like FK ones all came along in short succession:

I also removed the rear seats and added a carpeted floor as I was sick of everyone taking advantage of lifts (as selfish as it sounds!)

It stayed like this for a while whilst I tried to save for coilovers, but couldn't wait, and gave in to 60mm springs as a temporary fix.

Also during this time, I added a mild steel K-tec stealth and a DIY decat... doesn't sound amazing, but it's not boomy so I'll live with it.

I then luckily stumbled across the Rokkor coilover group buy, and couldn't say no, regardless of quality, for £130ish.

Whacked them on and they gave a pretty decent ride height tbh!

Very happy with it like this, and so it stayed for a while.

Bought a set of VERY ratty O.Z. SuperTurismo's (with terribley sized tyres!)
Had to buy some spacers, as they fouled the coilovers.. perhaps went a bit OTT with 25mm ones, but hey! at least they didn't rub!
Had to raise the front a lot and ditch the arch liners as the car didn't move.

Fairly gash looking but it gets better again, don't worry!

Old wheels back on with the spacers, bought a tow eye from Si (which Will see a track someday!) and sprayed the front diamond black:

front arches nice and filled

Sprayed the engine cover, sticker from Ady (n2grafix), bought a cheapo air filter and:

Cup Spoiler bought from ebay, Quite pleased with my spraying tbh!
Think I've nailed how to do it well.

The RS arches...
I'm not sure, but I don't think anyone else has really attempted this before?
Anyway, it's going to be a real ballache, so I guess that's why!

Nice and wide!

But, it's not perfect just yet.
The gap between the bumper and arch and the bit where a side-skirt should be both need to be sorted.

Hopefully I'll make a start on them soon.

Bought a pair of Parada's and a long awaited PH3 bumper (which is admittedly in not great condition) whacked them on, which brings us to how it is today.

Bumper will be getting colour coded by myself next week, which is also when it will be made to fit the RS arches by myself, hopefully.

After that, progress might be a little slow for a while, but future plans are Wide-track + big brakes, stripped out with decent seats & a Proper cage (and i mean proper) and lastly an engine swap. Either the basic F4R one, or a mint K4M on bodies like Hutchies, and then do shed loads of trackdays!

Looks lovely mate, wheres the ph3 bumper ? I like how u took the seats out ;) im thinking of that too, i feel bad saying NO to people. I need to make more money so i can start doing mine.

Cheers!

The only thing I'm uncertain on is Side-Skirts... It would make life easier than chopping up the wings and smoothing them etc, but I don't think I really like them!

Advice Needed.

Refurbing my SuperT's atm, but I don't know what colour combo would really work?

Really silvery silver

Out of the ones youve put up, i'd say black or green.
Hows about a dark purple? ;)

They're the ones I'm swaying towards. Maybe silver too, but that's what they were in the first place so it seems a little pointless doing them the same again..

Purple? Interesting suggestion! I'll have a go.

The car looks awesome mate.... You've done a good job there.

Wheels, definitely green! Would look incredible with some green detailing. If you're not feeling like the lairy colour scheme, then you have 1 vote for the anthracite.

  Renault Clio 1.6 CUP
my vote goes to the green ones :) something similar to this :)

and the wingmirrors wuld definitley be a nice touch :)

Cheers mate!

another vote for green! So that's at least one for every colour except the yellow... nobody feeling yellow?

I think that's my favourite tbh - but i'm not certain.

Yeah, like Porsche viper green. Do like them.

What aren't though? lol

Very good point! :dapprove:

I think silver to be honest mate, but you cant really tell just from photoshops as you say! a dark metallic red might look good, but not flat / gloss red

I have to admit I do quite like silver, its just a little boring!
Red looks good! Reminds me of edds ph1.

Done some plastic welding practice this afternoon on my old bumper, so ill get pics up in a bit...

Plastic Welding: Part 1

Righto, had a spare afternoon today, so I decided to get some practice in with welding plastic in preparation for when I do my new front bumper.
Sorry for the gash camera phone pic's, my proper camera was having a mare tbh.

I used power saw thing to chop my bumper, this takes quite a bit of material away as the blade's quite wide, so it's something to bare in mind when it comes to doing it properly.

IMAG0062.jpg

IMAG0063.jpg

Once I had two separate pieces, they were sanded down in order for the weld to stick (which didn't really work..) I then taped them in position, ready to start welding.
Using body repair mesh and a soldering iron, i began to weld... you have to melt the plastic around the mesh without pressing too hard.

IMAG0064.jpg

IMAG0065.jpg

IMAG0066.jpg

IMAG0067.jpg

It does look quite messy, but it's on the back of the bumper, so I'm not too fussed what it looks like. It holds well, obviously not as strong as when it was all one piece, but it'll take a like bump I recon.

Unfortunately, since I wasn't really taking my time, I messed up the allignment and was left with quite a bit to fill and strengthen. This wont be an issue when I come to do it properly, as I'll have a good couple of days to get the job done properly.

IMAG0068.jpg

I welded the front by melting zip ties (lol) and smoothing them out a bit. It's quite difficult, but again if I'd took my time it could be done well. And plus, if I didn't have the massive gap to fill, I wouldn't need as much extra plastic.

IMAG0069.jpg

It was then sanded down and smoothed a bit, but it wasn't perfect.
I then strength tested it, and to be fair, it did take quite a bit of effort to snap.

The plastic also started to flake off...

IMAG0070.jpg

Just to clarify, these are what I'm going to be welding onto my bumper - so it fits with the arches.

IMAG0071.jpg

That's all for now....

  Low!
Silver wheels look nice and clean, safe choice though lol. Not a fan of the green but if you can get the right colour of red and spray the side bullets the same coulour that would be ace!

BTW, I hate you. The rear picture of your car has just persuaded me that I need to get a cup spoiler. I was going to get the standard one sprayed but your car looks the sex from behind! lol

I do agree, silver would be a good choice... I just don't know - kind of want something a bit crazy tbh

Hahah! It makes Such a difference! i luckily managed to get it for £100, in more or less perfect condition... hate me some more ;)

Small Update

Got round to sanding bits down ready for spraying/welding this aft. Only took about an hour to do everything thanks to a power sander! :D

Unfortunately, this means my old practice bumper is back on the car...

Looks very sorry for itself :dapprove:
And btw, that IS holding the bumper together, not just for show!
More soon...
