New cup, is it dodgy?

  V6 255 Acid Yellow
Aight peps,

Just recently aquired my 172 cup from Renault.

On 1st test drive i noted it pulled to the left and part of the arangement for me to buy the car was for them to sort the pulling which they agreed to.

Ive had it a month now, tyre pressure was 1st thing checked, wheel alignment was performed by Renault which didnt fix it, they then replaced x2 front tyres so there all matching now have the same depth and all balanced wheels.

The car still pulls to the left if the wheel is released. i booted it today and threw the anchors on, the wheels didnt quite lock but the car kinda side stepped and drifted to the left, i thought it was the road so i did it again and the same thing happened.

Today i noticed a few dodgy things with the car on the passenger sider, the studs in the actual door have been replaced with steel ones insted of the usual black ones, the side skirt is not completly flush, when you open the door I can see over spray near where the door hinge is.

Basically i know the car has been in a knock and possibly and now my suspicions are pointing to a bent chasis, am i jumping the gun?

i assumed Renault wouldnt have sold me a bent car so i didnt run a hpi which i usually do when purchasing private. Since these findings i still havent run a hpi yet cause i dont think i should have to pay for it.

If the car has a bent chasis where do you think i stand with this? The car is going back in Wednesday for a "specialist" mechanic to give his verdict on it.

Not a great start the the clio sport world :dapprove:

Never assume this.

I bought a car from a franchise dealer (not my current one btw) which was accident repair only i wasn't told, actually, the dealer themselves didn't acknowledge it, apparently. I only found out when i had to get it repaired after hitting it myself and apparently the previous repair was a mess, from the outside you couldn't tell, i was surprised since it was a showroom car. And it wasn't hpi registered.

I think you should maybe tell them (Renault dealer) and chase it up, it may well be hit and not even recorded on hpi. Also, you say they were meant to sort the problem out, you should hold them to it and be firm with them.

If you want to pm me the number plate I can hpi the car for you for free? (i work in a dealers) :) It may not show anything, but it's worth a try?

Cupster

Give em sh1te mate, Renault should HPI every second hand car they sell I believe. Unless their own monkey mechanics knocked it? Would not surprise me I caught them ragging my old cup down the road after a service - bastids!

Not sure it would be the chassis but may well be the suspension/steering components

Hope you get it sorted

  soon: 172 Cup
HPi will be the only way to put your mind at rest fella!

Then claim it back off Renault, i am a great believer in he who shouts loudest gets further!

How much does it pull? If its only slightly it may just be the camber of the road. Cup's are quite prone to tramlining etc. Try taking it to a completely flat surface (eg. a carpark) and seeing of it still does it.

I'm not saying this is defo the source of the problem, but it may be worth trying before doing anything drastic! Hope you get it sorted if its a more serious problem.

Thanks for your replys, great site btw. Deb182 PM has gone, thnx. I think a 2nd opinion may be required and no it doesnt just follow the camber, ive had 3 of the renault guys in the car already who agree with me that it does drift.

Neil G I actually thought suspension may be a cause but then again suspension the way its made these days is really diff to damage unless its been really whacked hard in which case were it is actually mounted may distorted.

God knows, all i wanted was a car that drove straight lol Will be intresting to see what the hpi check comes back as.

not just a sticking caliper is it?!

Not something ive considered, i guess if it was sticking the alloy would be roasting in comparison to the other by the time ive finished my journey, ill check it out.

You have every right to take it back with a full refund if they have mislead you into a sale my friend.

Mine pulls to the left but I just thought it was a bit of torque steer?
Bit worried now!

If it only pulls when you boot it its torque steer, if it does it all the time it is'nt and you should check it out.

i know its not in the same league but my mrs 1.2 extreme has pulled slightly to the left since new (well 21 miles) i can remember reading on another forum or somewhere some do this i was specially carefull to check out the steering on my 182 on the test drive to make sure mine didnt do it..

FYI peps it has taken a whack and its suspected that the suspension components are knackerd. It came up HPi clear obviously dont outside of insurance but im in the process of getting my cash back or it will be to the courts.

Going to get a 182 this weekend so hopefully I can start enjoying the experiance of owning one of these cars.

For reference the dealership has to HPI a car before selling it on. My brother just bought a 320D and the guy at the BMW dealership said that if a dealer sells a car without running an HPI check you can get a full refund, even if you've driven the car for 2 or 3 years!?!?

They also have to make you aware of things like GAP insurance and you have to sign the record to prove the offered it to you. Apparently if they don't record the fact that they offered you GAP insurance and you subsequently wrote your car off you could claim off the dealer based on the argument that you would have taken the insurance if you'd known about it.....

Minor bumps, i.e. not write offs never show up on HPi. Only total losses.

Good lukc with getting you cash back, never nice to buy a pranged car.

I'd get the car rechecked ta another garage I've yet to find a Renault dealership who can do alligment checks properly.
