No Power

Instead of waiting to wednesday for renault to read the codes... would it not be best to try get it to a local garage with good diagnositic software or a renault specilist (non dealer)... that way your know if you are/not doing damage continuing driving it, i know you only do small miles... but ive had to do the diagnostics a number of times on previous cars at normal garages and they charged me around the 35 quid mark for peice of mind!

Semi-fixed.

Misfire on all 4 cylinders. New HT leads. New plugs and a gasket.

The revs aren't dropping off as it should. The technician says I should take off my aftermarket induction kit apparently. Which is 100% standard.

Is it hanging on the revs a bit? Could be the throttle body sticking slightly, I did a guide to fix that fella (If thats what it is)

lol, im the opposite, engines im fine with, but my total technological expertise goes as far as control alt delete

It does require the throttle body to be removed, but it's more to do with the correct cleaning and lubing mate - to get it right you need the body off for a soak overnight IMO.

Il have a rummage in the garage, I think I may have a spare one somewhere, if so il clean it up and stick it in the post for you to try

I might have to take you up on that.

Just been and picked it up. Had a disagreement with him about my standard airbox being standard. I didn't bring out the big-guns with "Don't you know who I am?" as I thought it was fixed and it's done now.

Paid my lovely £373.19 bill. Drove home. Still doing it. ACE!

Muppets :(

You really just need to get it next to a working one and swap bits over till its fixed to identify whats up with it, not be paying new prices just to try bits that clearly arent working.

Not that easy because of where I am :(

I said to him on the phone I'm concerned about costs and he said not to worry about that for now.

But they'll surely say it was miss-firing and they've fixed that? Or can I say that's like going in with a broken leg and them giving me a nose job and still making me pay? Lol.

I cant see them being keen to take the new bits off they have just fitted and give you a full refund on the new price of them as presumably they cant send them back to renault now, so will be interesting to see how that pans out!

Where are you from then? Surely there cant be many places that there isnt someone nearby from cliosport who can help you out with trying their bits on your car? I cant seem to go anywhere without seeing clios with the cliosport sticker on, lol

Faults like this are so much cheaper to diagnose yourself by replacing the common items first and using a process of elimination. Would only recommend a specialist in a case like this as most 'run of the mill' garages do not seem to have a clue!

I'm on the Isle of Wight mate.

I don't know anyone with a Ph1 :( There's a few around. Maybe I should just go and attack one with some spanners.

Isn't there a specialist in Portsmouth area? Would be cheaper to get the ferry over to mainland to cure.

Yeah. I've been to see Mike before.

But it's a £60 ferry, then however long without a car and he's always fully booked.

I'll let Renault assess it next week and go from there.

That bit.

Weds is the earliest Renault can look at it. I'd have to wait until 6th July if I wanted a courtesy car. Lol.

Hopefully it's not too expensive.

You posted this last friday, wednesday has been and gone, what was the outcome you skinny prick?

This thread is haunted. There was no page 3 last time I looked. Honest. Anyway I don't care. Your cars broked, mine isn't. Ha.

A gasket, leads and plugs. Diagonostics. Then obviously their special labour rates. Which definitely don't involve any sort of research to see what the car comes with as standard.

It went back and they claimed it was an air-leak because of their previous repair. Had it for a day and it's all good now.

But my worry is;

It had a fault. £400 didn't fix it. Still the same.

Then an air-leak being found/cured made it run perfectly fine.

So was the original bill actually needed? I'll never know or more to the point, can't prove it.

Meh. It's done now and my new iPhone fund needs rebuilding.

Meh. Bit annoying mate.

Ah well, at least it seems fine; you can get back to being moderately happy with it now.

I assume there is only one renault dealer on the island so they have a bit of a captive audience?
Glad its sorted in the end anyway, so you can get back to enjoying the car :)

PMSL @ that bill. Jesus. I took mine in to have the tappets replaced as it's... tapping. Anyway, they strip it down and notice the cylinder head needs replaced, along with cams. So that's not costing me the best part of £2k to upgrade. Oh wait, it is.

Still, at least it's not in bits waiting for the 172 Cup Racer cylinder head and uprated cams coming direct from France. Oh wait, it is. And has been for 3 weeks now.

Like you, if this doesn't rectify that tiny tapping noise, the car is getting it's head kicked in. Literally.

Hope it pans out for you, Dan. You and me both.

FFS. Bad times.

At least my car's not depreciated by more than both your combined bills already.

Oh wait, it has.
