Power On Motorway (top speed)





Since having my valver (previous car 1.4 rt) ive noticed that the power is still really good at high speeds ie the motorway. UP UNTIL THE OTHER DAY!!. Was flooring it on the motorway as a clio 172 was approachin me from behind, car accelerated really well up until 110 mph and then nothin. I couldnt manage any faster and still cannot till this day. What is wrong with my car???? it seems to hit 5500 revs and then slow right down as if its hitting some resistance. I felt the same kind of feeling when i floored it in third gear, acceleration was good up until 5500 revs then somehting funny happens.

Anyone got any ideas???

What have other top speeds been in valverS?

all i can tell u is mine hits 120 and still pulls on the motorways

it may be worth taking it to somewhere like BB Performance where they could tell u any thing that could give the effects that u are exsperiencing

hope u find out what the problem is

Built-in mechanism to make 172 owners think our cars are soooo much faster than a valver! Sounds like fuel starvation maybe?
 


ive had 125 outa my valver on the motorway , only bcos some boy racer in his dads mondeo was tailgating me , so i blew him :D

yeah mine does that raced my mate in his valver n his is standard apart from an ik i start to pull away in 1st 2nd n 3rd then in 4th he comes flying past me gutted as i have a chip ik ,full exhaust system oh he has an pbv to but mine seems too lose all power in 4th
 


done 125 in mine to waste an toss pot in an escort on the A46, and that was with 4 people in. (It was a VERY qiuet stretch of road and I know it well so no tut tuts :p)
 


Umm, with 16v you should get BETTER power at higher revs (yes we all know that) so I think you got a bit of a prob mate....does it stop at 5.5k in each gear or just 5th??

Dodgy fuel filter? If it was fine up until the other day, then it sounds like you might need a new fuel filter....or you have a bottleneck in your fuel piped somewhere.....just guessing as I know nothing about Valvers.

It still takes time to get to 120 though stupac, but mine flys to 110 as urs does but will then creep upto *25; ive had *30 out of mine (standard)! Nothing wrong with mine but it shouldnt lose power at higher revs in any gear but perhaps u lose momentum in 5th (air resistance); shouldnt happen in 3rd mind.
 


Get it serviced. My RT was feeling very slow and not accelerating at all well. Got it serviced and it feels a lot better.

ive only got upto 110 in mine cos theres a lot of roundabouts round here but it seems like it will go quicker. try swappin yer spark plugs if it happens in every gear. may be strugglin at high eng revs

Get it checked out !! You should be able to hit the limiter in 5th no probs !!

I know that wongys will hit 125 without any hassle and then creeps up to 145 !! Mine does the same but goes to 130 then creeps from there to 145 when i hit the limiter !! Must look at getting that limiter raised a touch more !!

Wonder if the cat is blocked slightly as at top wack you would be pumping alot of exhaust gases out.

I had *30 three up the other day so you should be able to get that out the valver no problem.
 


it doesnt stop at 5500 revs, it just hits some kind of resistance. Doesnt happen in all the gears, though noticeable in third and when trying to do 130! will get it checked out. would love to go to bb performance but im in leicester and its a TREK!

Air Resistance - Would that make a huge difference, i must admit when i get to 110 i do start to feel some kind of resistance!!!
 


really, you can run at 110 and feel some kind of resistance!!!

generally in my car i can feel air out the vents at 110.....lol

Nick Hill said something about not pressing the pedal all the way down in 5th at high RPM, he said increase the pressure on the pedal as RPM rises???????????

maybe there was a light headwind.. other cars tend to seem fast until you try racing a 172.. :devilish:
 


My Valver pulls like a train to *20 and then creeps above that. Most people seem to be able to get well over 130mph indicated, but I never can. The most Ive ever seen is about 127mph.

However, I had a top speed run with a Focus ST170 the other day on a possibly the UKs most pointless and quiet motorway (the M49 from Avonmouth to the 2nd Severn Bridge). The ST170 is meant to do 134mph and it wasnt getting away. Perhaps my speedo is just very accurate??
 


cars pretty standard at the minute. got 2 12 subs in the boot. Silver williams type wheels think the tyres are 185/55/15!

Does anyone know if hillpower do cambelt changes and if their competitively priced?
