Project OEM+ Chavbox. Alot of Pictures

  Mk2 Escort
Right ive been on the site a bit now and thought id post up my shame ;)
Stolen from another progress thread:

Hi all!
Too all of those who dont know / remember me. Heres a quick run down.
98 Mk1 Vtr
79k
Rare Crimson Colour
I bought it completly standard and everything done on the car has been done by myself and Papa N on a show string budget.

I bought the car as an upgrade form my 1.4 flat arch i used to own. The colour sold the car for me as i had never seen one in this colour and am still one of the only active members on car clubs with this colour.

How it started:

P4150054.jpg

Completely standard.

Then she went down on 40mm springs and black wheels ready for Trax 2008

CIMG2233.jpg

After trax i started focusing on making the car track ready with 250lb springs / Pugsport dampers and Group n rears. Only to find it way to hard for the predominant road use i was using it for.
So times and aims had changed, and making this a comfortable daily was the new objective.
(Many thanks go to Speedlover and others for keeping me on track with the plans through some rough times)

On went an Apex 35mm kit, which i cannot rate highly enough for daily use. Handles superbly and is fairly comfortable over bumpy roads.

This car is detailed to a big standard with me being a part time valeter / detailer. And has come third in show and shine comps last year

One of the best pics of my car on its standard wheels:

Recent progress has been me replacing the rear beam with a new one from ImAxles

Old vs New

New beam and polybushed rear end:

And the new wheels as many would of seen at FCS

i decded to give the boot floor a little spruce:
DSC00607.jpg

Alot better i think. The exhaust hanger has been touched up since the picture was taken along with the bit by the beam which is now all silver too.

Also here is a little before and after of the backbox heat shield.

And thats the car pretty much up to date.

Future plans involve GTI Leather and a spruce up in the bodyshop

Thanks for looking guys, all comments very welcome. Ill try and keep this updated with some good updates.

Oi, stop calling it a Chavbox lol. They're awesome car's :D Just a shame about the stereotype that comes with them.

Still looks good though pal :)

Re: Project OEM Chavbox. Alot of Pictures

When I seen the turini's I actually lol'd. Looks good though, Amazing that so many can look so chavvy, but 1 car like yours can make me change my mind about the 'target audience' of saxo's.

Not all saxo's are Halfords magnets!

My last car which is now owned by my younger brother, still love driving it!

Hate the stereotype. They are good handling cars and dont look to bad if done correctly. Chavbox is my name for it. Is in a way. Will be up for sale this year for a 106 gti more track orientated project

Looks great, rare colour too

Only reason i kept it this long is the colour. thanks for the comment

Turinis suit it quite well in my opinion but yes it is trying to be a clio. They're a few one or two that actually do make them look good and i hope i am one of them

its nice to see a saxo been modified"correctly" instead of usual lot that just driving it into halfords

Thats what i was going for. Keeping the bodywork looking as standard as possible. But making the car Citroen should of made underneath. They are not a bad looking car as standard but people choose to do all sorts of bad things to them. Sharing the same chassis as a 106 Gti as well they are not a bad handling car at all. Just takes the correct and proper enhancements to get the best out of them
Doesn't stop every fucker think i want to race them though

Well I think we all know what I think of red saxos.

Stop bangin on about it, move on.

Looks lovely that...Always thought the MK1 looks more aggressive than the MK2!

VTR/S in standard form or tastefully modified are good looking cars.

Exactly dude. Loved mine tbh. Really do miss mine but i'm gradually getting to grip's with the 172.

Can't go entering the show and shine's if you're doing a track car next!

Well ive always kept it mega clean and entered show and shine as a laugh once and surprised to get third. Kinda spirialed from there and i do part time detailing now so it comes naturally. This car doesnt really see track but it only goes out on the road once maybe twice every two weeks! £20 of fuel has lasted me 3/4 weeks now. Thats how i justify a nice track orientated car after this one. Will still be clean though ;)

Haha, i didn't think it had clicked :rasp:

Yea, that's right dude. Runner up trophy behind Simon. I was surprised to say the least that day - i only entered like 5 mins before folks were awarded too.

And a clean track car is fine dude. You're paintwork may not end up like James' but atleast you will be enjoying the car, not to knock James like but you know what i mean. Better to use, enjoy and keep it clean than to clean it and never drive it!

Re: Project OEM Chavbox. Alot of Pictures

Absolutely love it! Remember seeing one or two of those photo's a while ago, and them making me seriously consider a MK1 VTS. I've actually got a Photoshop of one of your FCS photo's somewhere
Great job :approve:

Simon is a legend. His car is soo nice. Mine is off to the bodyshop before fcs so hopefully will give him a run for his money this year. Will never end up like james's but he does very very little miles. More art work than car now. I use mine when i want and thats fine. Really cant wait to get my hands on a Gti soon :)

Re: Project OEM Chavbox. Alot of Pictures

Just out of interest, is it possible to fit a smaller boot spoiler to one - like from a MK2? Or would it leave holes in the boot?

Yea, Simon's sound enough. He came to my house with his girlfriend to pick up a set of wheel's which i sold when the Saxo went. Quiet lad but he's sound!

Good luck with the GTI, i'm sure you'll love it!

Re: Project OEM Chavbox. Alot of Pictures

Im not 100% certain. With a bit of modding yes. I dunno if the mk1 is drilled in or bonded. chances are there would be holes left in the boot. and the mk2 spolier goes through special holes in the glass. Much easier to buy a second boot with a mk2 spoiler on and spray it. My spoiler is getting a bit wobbly on one side so i dunno what to do. prob just pop some sealant in and leave it as a mk1 spoiler

lol yeah is quiet but proper sound. his missus always says she wants to buy my car at shows lol.
Gti will be a very fun project. Nearly bought a satchshift for it the other day and i havent even got a gti yet. The wheels and brakes will be transfered over and ive got Blistien Grp N's in the garage ready to go. Then onto engine mods. bwaaaarrrrpppppp
