Looks like a new lease of life, project rebuild and reshell starts monday.

everything from this is going to be swapped into my 1.2 shell

once everything mechanical has been done the roof is going to be taken off the sport and put on the non sport to do away with the sunroof. then i will either have the car wrapped or painted.

so everything starts monday. the stripping of the 1.2 has started

shouldnt take too long for everything to be done. wont be doing the work myself as im a joiner not a mechanic but my trusty friend mick known for his low clio van will be working on it.

also anyone wanting any parts of the 1.2 send me a pm most of the mechanical parts are for sale as will be some interior bits.

cheers for looking

nah dout it mate hopefully sell the 1.2 bits, cheers

How comes your putting everything into a 1.2 shell?

I'm a bit confused too...

well for starters the 172 has rear end damage witch really bugged me, and with the list of ongoing problems with the 172 it seamed like the logical idea to take it apart and fix whats broken, then put it back together in a straight shell.

plus the bonus of tax being the same as a 1.2 . and insurance for me slightly cheaper as its deemed as a modification.

so i should have a pretty decent engine converted 1.2 at the end with most mechanical parts being sound as worn/broken parts are all being replaced.

thanks

it probably is a crazy option but im happy lol, you could say why do anything.. but why not

Road tax should increase i believe.

maybe i have been miss informed, either way no big deal years tax on a sport isnt really going to break the bank.

Looking good mate, hope all goes well with this!

thanks mate appreciated.

i got sick of it and wanted to sell it, reason i bought it in the first place was to do an engine swap in the 1.2

but my mate Mick went to Kuwait and couldn't do the work so i was kind of gutted. Therefor i decided i was going to sell it.

the day after i said i was going to sell it he announced he was going to be back, so hence why the project was back on.

cheers

Makes sense to me cheaper to swap every thing than to repair the dented shell. Plus really doesn't take long to do. 16Hrs easy. But I'm doing it around me free time. Plus work shop isn't set up the way I would like haha. I'm tempted to convert the van if I can't get a dci 100 Donner

No progress this week as I'm waiting on a radiator from a member on here, been fucked about for the passed 2 weeks so that's no good.

Had to buy another radiator so hopefully that one comes for the weekend and we can get this on the road.

Oh and if anyone wants any mk2ph2 non sport parts I'm your man just drop me a pm of what you need.

Nice work, but i fail to see why ur swapping shells... any particular reason? or just because you can lol :S

nice work there!

its been said i think twice now back in the thread.

Sport shell was damaged. lots wrong with it etc engine needed overhauled so rather put it back in a bent shell i put it all back in the 1.2 shell with some better parts added.

so essentially i have a straight shell and fresh parts for my future plans.

Interesting project to view and thanks for the pics
Following with interest

I am in the club of people who think all this is a bit mad though... :)

cheers for the kind comments.

but i really don't understand what's not to get about it.

its pretty inexpensive for me to do this so why not. when its finished and on the road it will be still a lot cheaper than a mega mint 172.

all the perishable parts have been replaced. bushes belts etc all at the one time so its much easier to take it all apart and put it in another shell.

Doesn't make sense to put everything back in a bent and dodgily welded shell does it?
