Proton Waja 1.8 Malaysia

Hello... Im from malaysia, and i know that i would be in the wrong discussion group/forum. But... i am still curious and maybe you guys might be able to help me out.

Ive just bought a Proton Waja 1.8 (a Malaysian) car, and the car is fitted with a Renault engine... which i dunno from what model. The only thing i know is the Engine Number - F4PA. Some tell me that its a Laguna engine... some also assume that its a Megane 2 engine.

I have been looking and asking around for advice and help... because i would like to upgrade the chip to a performance chip. Right now... the engine would only give me a mearly 116bhp! which is too damn underpowered.

If anyone of you know about the engine... please reply to this topic. Really do appreciate your help.

Would there be any place / site that i could browse for performance chips? For the Laguna / Megane 2 engine? it looks like there is no hope on upgrading the chip in my car....

trouble is the ecu would be bespoke to that car

i doubt it uses the same ecu

Ive also checked at the manufacturers site (http://www.proton.com.myproton.com.my), and looks like theyve just updated the technical specs for the Proton Waja 1.8.

In the technical specs, the engine is a F49 D4 MPI with Emision Standard EC 94/12...

Also, written there that the car would produce 88kW @ 5750rpm...

The F4 engine.. would it be a laguna engine? or the Megane 2 engine? damn am i confused... first of all... on the specs that ive gotten from people, its a F4PA engine... from the manufacturers site, its a F49 D4 engine.. then at the hood of my car... it states there a 4G93 (Mitsubishi GSR) engine....

Im really confused... who / what should i listen to?

id go with mitsubushi

as proton have been using thier engines (and cars) since the firm was founded in 1860 by Mr A.S Hitcars of sepang

(made the last bit up)

The F4P was used in the megane 1 and Laguna 1, yours is a 16V yes?

There is no F4PA, but there are several varients of the F4P

Check over the cylinder head/water pump/cylinder block for any markings of the original manufacturer.

Even if it is a renault engine, you will need to know the exact engine it is comparable with in our market of most people wont be able to help. You might be running different injection/ecu/emissions/camshaft profiles/exhaust/CR etc etc.

youll need alot of info for soembody to make a chip from across the world.

Yes.. it is a 16 valve... and the only thing i realise that makes the engine different from the 4G93 engine is the exhaust manifold... exit is at the back.... which is reversed from the 4G93.

Thanks for the advise BenR... i will keep on looking around and asking people... Really appreciate the effort.

crossflow? u mean the extractor? Now the new engine has got a 4-1-1, exits from back which i cannot see from front definitely... cant be able to describe clearly

for the 4G93... 4-2-1 exits from the front flows below the engine... then underneath the car all the way to the back.

New engine F4P / F4PA / F4 or whatever... im not so sure... exits from rear, through underneath the car all the way to the back.

crossflow, i mean the cylinder head design, i.e. inlet one side and exhaust the other.

I suggest jsut looking on the engine.

lol, there is LOADS i dont know!

i wish i knew more, so keeping on top of stuff is the easiest way.

How much does a half-cut Renault Clio V6 24V engine+gearbox cost there in Europe? Id say that the engine is a NA engine. right down here in Malaysia is approx. RM15k. Is that high?

Yo BenR... ive already poped up the hood and checked the engine design. This F4P / F4PA engine is not a crossflow design. Inlet and exhaust manifold same side. Does that mean anything? Any idea?

There is no Renault F4PA engine and the F4P is a 16V crossflow design.

A pic of your engine would help alot.

The V6 engine.

LOL!!! if you can find one, expect to pay ALOT, and what would you do with it? youll need more than jsut the engine if you want to do a conversion. the whole rear subframe and suspension assembly would be a good starting point.

by the time youve done the conversion.....it would be cheaper to buy the soddin whole V6 car !!!........& drive better !...........he he he...& look better !!! but benn will do the conversion 4 u........just buy him a pint !! ;)

Well... will post the pic soon as possible. But im definite sure that the engine is a renault engine... though the model/type is the one that im not sure.

F4PA is what its stated on the grant. So i guess and presume that its a F4PA engine. since u say that the engine is not a F4P engine... as its not a crossflow.:)

Yup... the waja is the Proton Impian... but i guess that there is no or the 1.8x is yet to be launched overseas. The 1.6 is using the Japanese engine... think not mistaken,... the 4G18 (must be from the Mitsubishi Lancer GDi).

well... if only they have launched it there... but trust me... the 1.8 model has yet to be improved! As the Proton Impian 1.6x Auto outputs 76kW @ 6000 rpm, the New 1.8x Auto Model would generate an output of merely 88kW 5750 rpm...little improvement... but still 0-60mph in 12+ seconds with a tops of 184kph.

urgh! what a damn slow car.... compared to the previous Wira 1.8/Putra 1.8/Satria GTi which all three came with the 4G93 (Mitsubishi GSR) engine!

Well my previous Wira 1.8 Special Edition would do 0-60mph in less than 7.5sec... gives me about 195bhp @ 5750 rpm on dyno... thats with the 4G93... well now... think bout changing the waja engine back to the 4G93... but the mounting is not the same anymore..

damn i still havent got the picture of me engine... will post it this evening... +0800 GMT. thehehe...

4G93 with 195hp is that with a turbo?

I remember a 1.8 4G93T puts out about 180hp.

and 1.8 MIVEC puts out about 175hp

so urs not standard I presume.

well... the engine is not standard 4G93T...

some (spent rm25k) modifications was done to the engine...

Balanced, ported&polished, racing cams, re-bore, Changed the pistons, rings..., exhaust manifold, inlet manifold, oversized header, oversized manifold, triple clutch plate, crankshafts changed, lifters, custom computer box with built-in AFC and ITC, oversized fuel pump,... and lots more...

final input was the NOS... which was a little costly...

well now... that i have changed my car... to the Waja/Impiana 1.8x..., seemingly to have a renault engine in it... which i myself am not sure about it... so does Mechanics in Proton itself... am a little confused and eager to modify it... but there is just not enough input.
