really high insurance prices, when kept securely...

  172ph2
When I was living in Edinburgh I was paying about £575 for a 172, 27 yo, 3 yeas NCB, parked on the road with Admiral.
Moved down to Bedford, it goes up to £900, (had 3 points added this time, 40 in a 30, doh)

I'm going to be moving to Milton Keynes soon so did some quotes on compare the market, I compared a couple of areas I'm looking at, they came out to about 750. But one of the places has secure locked gated parking, so why the hell when I spec'd that the prices went up £200!

Park on the road = 750
Stick it behind a security gate = 950

WTF, how does that work?

Something to do with more damage getting it out of the security gates. It's the same as parking in a locked garage. Madness.

I think it's because when they're parked somewhere that makes it easier to identify the owners house then there is a higher chance of a house break in to get the keys.
Whereas parked on the street it could be one of many houses.

Thats what I got told by Elephant as my insurance is slightly more for parking in my yard than it is a 3 minute walk away on a side street.

Saner - No reason given, was just a price quoted from compare the market
EvilGiraffe - Yeah think I'll try a specialist next

Would there be anything wrong in declaring it parked on the road, but keeping it in the compound and just accepting if I stuff it while driving in or out that's it's my own stupid fault and just not claim?

I guess, but it's one of those new builds that has secure video phone entry, 2nd floor and a couple of doors to get through. They should really find out about the property first.

Yeh I had the same when I was going to start driving my LCR to work due to the amount of them going missing around here I wanted it somewhere secure during the week while I was away, when it would've been parked in a 24hr security patrolled yard, under CCTV, they wanted more, So I told them I'll let the thing get nicked then.

Those quotes seem steep bearing in mind you are 27 with 3 years NCB. If you wanted i could run a quote for and hopefully get it at much more reasonable level.

If you cover less than 7500 miles per year you could also qualify for our reduced mileage discount which can lead so some great prices.

Milton Keynes is not a problem postcode for us at all so dont see why it would be so much more than in Edinburgh

If you wanted to drop me a PM with your contact number id be happy to run a quote through for you even if its just as an idea for when your policy comes up. If the quote was drastically less you could look to cancel the Admiral Policy and switch over.

Best Regards
