Servicing your Clio

  2003 MR2 Roadster
My 172 is due a service and I've decided to do it myself. I was just wondering how far you go when it comes to servicing (ie what exactly you do). It will be the cars 3rd service and has just done 30k (last service was in Jan at 22k).

I was thinking flushing oil and replacing with Mobile 1, oil filter, plugs and leads and a tune (just recently replaced air filter with a K&N panel so this is fine).

I'd be interested in any advice please.

Thanks

PS-How much does the oil filter tool cost and is the filter easy to get to/change?

Whens your next service due/going to be?

36k service you need the AUX belt changed , and unless you know what your doing PAY a specialist to do it!

I dont have a clue when an AUX belt is (sorry). Is it a timing/fan belt?

How much will it cost and what are the implications if I dont get it done?

PS-Will a crypton tune be as good as a rolling road tune?..Last time I had another car on the rollers they drove it soo hard it gave me the mother of all oil leaks (thank you Well Lane Turbo Centre).

Timing on your car isnt adjustable so no point going for YE OLDE CRYPTON TUNE. The aux belt needs to be done - what plate is the car on? it migh even need a cambelt soon.

36k for the Aux belt doffo need's doing , i'm not 100% ,but i think it run's the altanator, but when they snap they can ( and do ) take out your cam belt ( timing belt ) and thats a new engaine or costley rebuild!!!!!!!

Try RStuninng in Leed's , i think it will be about 250-300 quid for full service inc Aux belt.

Don't take the risk , get it done mate, you can do all your other service's yourself apart from the CAM belt service Renault say 72k , but most get it done about 50k

Nice one, cheers

Just dropped them an email

Thanks

Well recommended, Si. I had my 36k service done there the other month and with you being in West Yorkshire, they are even closer to you.

I've always changed the oil and filter at 6k mile intervals on my car since new. However, for the main service intervals, I've always taken it to a specialist. It's my daily driver and I'd be majorly p1ssed at myself for not doing the right servicing on it - and messing up big style.

As I've said on other posts too, request that you get your gearbox oil changed at the same time. It not a big job - only costs a few quid (approx £20, iirc) but it 'revived' the feeling in my gearbox instantly. In theory, your car could still be running on the same 'box oil for over four years - give it an early Christmas treat. ;)
