Shock compresses 1/2cm when pushed? MOT failure.

Failed MOT on 'worn bottom ball joint' but the ball joint is brand new, had the car jacked up and when I pushed the wishbone up no play in the ball joint but the shock compressed about 1-2cm very easily?? No play in the other side?

Recently swapped the shocks so could I just not done the top mount up tight enough?

do you have the washer mod done?
ie washer under the strut top to stop knocking when at full lock?
if so remove washer....

Nope, although the bearing split into pieces when I took the shock out, im guessing this could be the cause of them problem?
