Speedo is well out :S

My speedo seems to be crazy out!!

just driven to Chessington and back from bournemouth with the girlfriend for the day and we both noticed that the speedo was saying 85 and the sat nav was still in the 60s...

it does have smaller wheels than the standard 205/45/16 as its now on 195/45/15 but surely its not that going to put it out by that much?? :S

is there anywhere that you can get them re calibrated? and i have seen people mentioning the ABS ring ? is there anyway of checking this is working or not ?

Do the diagnostic; if you press the button on the end of the right stalk while you turn on the car you'll go into diagnostic, and the needle will go through intervals of either 20 or 40 (can't remember which) and this should show if it's calibrated as far as I'm aware.

As far as I'm aware; if the dial hits 20, 40, 60 etc then it's calibrated properly, but if say it hits 23, 46, 69 then it's out - I've never actually seen one that's out, so I'm just assuming that's how it works.

So i just went outside at tested it...

It goes 0-40-80-120-160 and then back again however on each its just above the round number so its like 2-22-42-82-122-162.... so i guess this is correct and no faults where logged!

is there anyway of testing the abs ring ?

I don't know about the ABS ring sorry. Are you sure the sat-nav was correct? Have you had the 182 long? Did it feel like you were going quicker than 60? If it was over-reading heavily I'd have thought you'd have been getting caught by speed camera's, or if you were held up by other traffic doing the limit, your dial would indicate something like 40 while you're going through a 30 limit camera doing the same speed as everyone else.

yeah i've had it a while, the only change in the last few day being the wheels and a few months prior to that the brakes failed and it had a very light front end crash (just bodywork) hence the thought about the ABS rings! it was hard to tell if it felt slower as it was very light traffic and i was sitting at a speedo indicated 80 happily in the middle lane so that makes judging it very hard indeed! but the sat nav is normally smack on and!

Perhaps grab a mate and sit behind him while he's doing 40 and see what your dial is showing; hopefully a specialist will be in here soon to guide you on ABS rings.

thats tomorrows plan mate, i hope so haha it may be that its just the sat nav playing up (i do hope so) or a simple fix but being french things are never easy!
