Speedo sensor problem

Hi

My speedo sensor is on its way out(keeps choosing when to give me a speedo reading and when not to)
My problem is, when the speedo does give me a reading i can really feel the car holding back and when it cuts back again i.e no reading, its seems a hell of a lot smoother.
Is this a common problem with the sensors on its way out?

ilove it when it stops working, throttle response seems so much better haha
