"Stop" and oil warning light coming on and off when driving

So here's my problem, when out driving my engine "stop" light comes on with the oil warning light on several times through the day but then goes out again, I've recently topped up it up with 2 litres of oil about a week ago(which it guzzled) to see if this sorted it, this brought the level on the dipstick between the lines. So I have no idea as to why it keeps happening?

My 172 did this yesterday. It's more than likely a faulty oil sensor.

If its been run low on oil, it could have done some damage and now causing low oil pressure. Get the oil pressure manually checked.

You put 2 litres in! Isn't it a litre between the lower and upper mark on the dipstick? So 2 litres to fill it half way up the dipstick means you had next to no oil in it ? Lucky if that hasn't done some damage...
