top strut problem

hope someone can help asap, took the car to get lazer tracking last week and was told the front struts were loose as there is alot of play when the car is jacked up and stationary if any weight is applied, I fitted the washer "fix" a few month ago but the knocking came back after a clutch and gearbox renewal.

There is around a 1cm gap showing on the top mount looking under the bonnet between the cap and body work, any ideas to this ?

You mean 1cm when the car is sat on it's wheels? It's supposed to be like that. And there will be a lot of play when jacked up - it's only the weight of the car that keeps the top of the struts in position.

no idea why they were jacking it up Fred they did that the last time I asked them about it
