will the belts be okay?

  182 cup
Buying a clio 182 cup today, the cambelt and aux belt were done at about 45,000 miles, its now on 75,000, although they were done 5years ago. Have seen some info with people recommending a change every five years... Should I expect to get them changed in the near future? Will only be doing about 4000 miles a year in it. Car is running nicely with no suspicious noises.
Cheers.

thanks, just realised somebody asked pretty much the same question yesterday so we'll close this case.

It's great leverage to get some money off the asking price mate. Factor in that there won't be much change out of £500 to get the belts done. And I believe that the advice is to get the dephaser done at the same time.

As Ron said, to do the Cambelt, Aux belt, Dephaser pulley and Waterpump, you're talking £350 in parts alone. Factor in 4 ro so hours labour etc, you can see why this job gets expensive!

Cheers for the advice lads! Was aware about getting all the belts done at the same time. I'm only paying £1100 for a 75,000 miles 182 cup with fsh! Cant go far wrong. Presume changing all the belts is a big job to do yourself? Have seen people say the timing is crucial and needs a specialist really.

It's possible to do yourself, but if you don't know what you're doing I'd recommend someone else doing them. You need to use the correct locking tools to ensure the timing is right.

Without seeing the car, that seems a decent price, even when you factor in belts. Fair play.

Its in RB like yours! has got a dented door but its only superficial. All other bodywork is perfect. Will hold out for someone breaking one or more likely get a respray on one of a different colour/get the door on it sorted. Can get a good price off a mate. Thanks for the advice probably best to go to a specialist for the belts.

Here is the important question. Does the RB have it's stripes?

Really happy with it! just picked it up tonight, think the guy had a bit of a realisation overnight that he had let it go a bit cheap! haha. Anybody know anywhere I'd have a chance of getting a RB drivers door from before I get one sprayed? Have put it on the wanted section so far but not holding out much hope.

cheers everyone! and i did suspect that, going to get one sprayed, will post some pics when its all done.

I hope your bodyshop is good, RB can be a ballache to match as original paint darkens with age... I dread a ding when owning my RB, I don't fancy trying to match it... Sounds a great buy though, and definitely agree with belts ASAP, personally I'd budget circa £700 and get belts, dephaser and waterpump all done by a specialist, then you have an 1800 quid RB fully sorted...... Happy days!!!
