Experience with police?

This is what happened -
I was running a bit late for work so I was driving a bit enthusiastically and a white van man pulled out in front of me through the bottom of town in a two lane road. I thought I would just nip past him as he pulled to the left and I stayed in the right lane. As I put my foot down to overtake him, doing the speed limit I might add, I didn't see the red light due to the van being a high roof one and it blocked the light from my perspective. As soon as I noticed the red light I jammed my brakes on and skidded through the red light onto a box junction. I noticed a police car waiting at the red light on the opposite road. I reversed back behind the line, feeling a bit sheepish and waited for the light to go green and went - only to have the police car summoning me to pull over. I did and waited for them to turn around and pull up behind me.
A very nice female traffic officer got out and said -
Officer - What was that all about?
Me - Sorry, a bit late for work and the van pulled out in front of me, went to overtake and didn't see the red light. Braked hard and then saw your car.
Officer - and thought 'oh s**t'
Me - Yes, something like that.
Officer - We thought you might be having a problem with the van driver.
Me - Not really a problem, just wanted to overtake as he slowed me down, but just didn't see the red light.
Officer - No problem, what's your name?
Me - Gave my name and offered to show my driving license.
Officer - no don't worry, is this car registered to you?
Me - Yes, it's taxed, MOT'd and insured.
Officer - OK, no problem, get on your way and drive carefully.
I just had to share my experience with the police and want to say that I think I learned more by them talking to me in the way that they did, instead of them arresting me for dangerous driving that they could have so easily done. It's not very often that you get let off for skidding through a red light in front of a police car!
Anyone else have any close calls with the police?

You must have had one of the very few good ones.

Have had good and bad experiences, some of them have a right chip on their shoulder. Lucky escape there though lol.

I have never, and I mean never, had a bad experience with a police officer. I've only ever been pulled once and the bloke was perfectly fine with me (he thought I was trying to run away from him!) and sent me on my way amicably. When I had my crash, the police officers were again proper sound, no issue whatsoever. I've come across them a few other times too and they've been great then too.

I also get to speak to MOD police on the river quite a bit too and they're all good folks. We've (MVS) even done counterterrorist training with them (but that was before I joined the unit).

If you go up to them being a badmanz, you will get it. If you don't, you're respectful and comply with them, they will usually be sound as a pound.

Also, @Sunglasses_Ron is a proper sound policemanofficer too.

Yes, sound as a pound is the actual phrase I used when describing the officer to my work colleagues! As you so rightly stated, if you're respectful (which I was) they seem to treat you fairly.

Been pulled over a few times but never had any bad experiences. In fact the last time I was speaking to a Police officer he complimented me on my car!

Yeah pulled far to many times! Police always been absolutely fantastic. Been let off quite a few times for 3 figures speeds! 105 and pulling away was one lol. Managed to wiggle my way out of it <3

And quite a few other silly speeds.

Only time I've ever been given points was for parking on zig zag lines at 1am. I happily accepted them given the number of things they have let me off with!

Always had a good laugh with them and a crack about cars usually. They're are very good where I live. I find the traffic police far better to deal with than normal police.

Police around where I live are decent in my experience. I've driven cars that are either "too expensive" or "too fast" for my age/baby face since I passed my test and still not had any bother.

The last time I got pulled over was probably a good 3 or more years ago in my 200 because the copper saw "A nice car driving through a s**te area late at night". Asked me where I was going then let me on my way.

I've met good police and i've met utter c***s.

I've met really good shop staff and i've also met utter mongoloids.

I've had good Doctors and some terrifying ones.

That's life.

Only time I've ever had a bad experience with police was on a breakdown. But that was more to do with the copper being an arse and not wanting to be sat there anymore than I did.

years ago i had a series1 rs turbo...it was 1am on christmas day and i hadn't been out getting pissed, there was absolutly no traffic about so thought i would go for a drive...i pulled out of my road and hadn't even got 200 yards when a cop car appeared from nowhere and pulled me over.

I got out and he asked what i was doing..i said i was going for a drive to brighton(i lived in surrey at the time) as there was no cars about, just tunes on and cruising

He walked round the car and asked if it was quick,to which i replied "yeah not bad but i don't give it large on the roads ;)"

He said "follow me" and i thought oh s**t now what??........we drove upto the a217 about half a mile away and pulled over.

he then said "it's a dual carraigeway ahead" (which i knew obviously) and then told me when we get to the roundabout which joins it,he will stay in the left lane and i stay in the right.....AND THEN "GIVE IT SOME" for the next mile or so...i thought he was joking and after a brief discussion that it was early morning and no-one was about,he wanted to see if my car was quick.

We got to the roundabout, both in our respective lanes,i gunned it,left him for dead, pulled up in the next bus stop/lay by,jumped out,lit a cigarette and as he pulled up asked him"what kept you?" lol

He was properly impressed and wanted another good look around it,sat in it etc and had a chat for about 20 mins, after which he said to me "Happy christmas young man, enjoy your drive and take it easy."..then drove off and disappeared into the distance.

best copper i have ever met and when i used to see him driving about he always gave me a flash of the lights.

I was driving along one day and I got pulled over because I matched a description.

Turns out I was supposedly leaving the scean of a major accident that I caused by hitting a rav....

They refused to believe me until I pointed out my cars bodywork was fine. And not to mention the fact they wanted a corsa (heard over radio) and not a flipping CLIO!

Never had any bad dealings with the police. Got pulled over by a bit of a jobsworth in the R26 once, but I was speeding and he let me off so I can't complain. In all my 24 years of driving, I've been stopped three times and never been done for anything. On one of those occasions I was doing nothing wrong, they just had the wrong address for me on their system.

It's generally those who drive like utter dicks and have a bad attitude who don't like the police, I find.

I have had bad and good but mostly bads. First one pulled me (this is when ANPR was first released) to tell me my car was stolen. I'd only had the car 2 weeks so off we go to sit in the back of their car and they went through the motions of asking questions about it and me. I then noticed that the reg displayed on the computer screen in their car wasnt displaying the number on my plate, it was one character out.
The officer driving the car said "oh its read it wrong again" and looked at his partner a bit sheepishly as if to say "we f**ked up here" however the other guy decided he was going to give me a producer anyway. No apology or anything for wasting a good 30 minutes of my time and making me late for work when they didnt even bother to check what was printed on a plate directly in front of them.
Other not necessarily bad but odd ones Ive had was are I was driving home in my old 106 back from my parents house at about 1am, police 3 series going the opposite way die a 180 and followed me. I pulled into my drive and they rolled up and called me over
Them: "Going a bit fast through that traffic calming werent you?"
me: "No, I was doing under the limit as I only live a few feet from it."
Them: "Are you insured?"
Me: "Yes I am"
Them: "Where've you been?"
Me: "My family's house"
Them: "Ok" cue the window goes up and they pull away rapidly.

Left me thinking what was the point of all that, they didnt check anything at all.

Then again i've been let off when I should really have had points, female police officer pulled me for no belt and using the phone. Bit of a w**ker thing to do I know but I had only gone 20 feet from work and was turning the phone off and was just about to put my belt on. She said "have you got loads of money?" so I gave her my license thinking "oh bugger this is points right here now". She went off to her car to check it and then came back, gave it me back and said "on your way then dont do it again".
I learnt my lesson that day.
They werent traffic police though just your run of the mill panda car bobbys

Got pulled over 1 month after getting my first car up on the road which was scary.

Was driving home at 3am after coming back from a gig in York, they were really pleasant and just asked what I was doing and checked around the car.

They told me that my exhaust was blowing. It wasn't, it was a loud aftermarket thing haha.

I think if they see that you're a nice guy and don't come across as "dodgy" you'll be fine unless you've killed a man

The amount of times I've been let off far outweighs the amount of times I've been done for anything.

The police get so much bad press it's unfair. Would you like to do the job they do?? I defo wouldn't, dealing with scumbags and chavs and people who watch too much american TV.

You treat them as fellow humans you get treated like one, you treat them like s**t and you'll get treated like that in return.

Anyone who has a problem with the police is either a 'rood bwoy' or is doing something wrong.

Thumbs up to the 5-Oh fro me. Good work.

I've had a few run-ins with the police, ALL on the road might I add, I'm no crook ;-)

Some of them have been out there to prove a point, power crazy, etc, but some of them have been absolute gents.

Most recently, joined the bypass a little quickly, police pulled me over (didn't see him already on the bypass behind me), gave me a warning... said there's no way I can give you a ticket, love your car and we share the same birthday!

Ultimately, I've got a lot of respect for them.

I used to get pulled all the bloody time!! Badman innit lol!! Once I got pulled 2.5 times in one night!! It would have been three, but they had to go off & do something else.

I got pulled last year driving like a complete bellend past old trafford. Had my final exam the next day too, heart sank. Gave me a lecture in the back of the car, was fully expecting to be banned and he showed me mercy and said off you go, good luck in the exam.

Next day I passed and I'm fully qualified now. Been trying to find out who he was so I can say ta and give him something to say thanks.

Well i am a bit shaken today.

Was in a rush to get to work, and like a fool i put my foot down.

I was leaving a 50 zone that enters a 30 zone, But this 30 zone has a good .5miles before it actually needs to be a 30 zone. (but who am i to say this)

SO I'm doing 50+ in this small 30 zone and 3 YES THREE Police Bikers shoot up my arse with lights flashing telling me to pull over.

So i am sitting there crapping myself knowing that full well that this is an offence that can have me stripped of my licence.

One of them comes to the door, Askes me to unlock it so i do, He hunches down and starts talking, Obviously i can tell this chap is not best pleased with me by his tone and body language. So im thinking oh crap, oh crap.

He tells me off, Asks how long i have been driving and then tells me if i had been driving for 2 years i would no longer have a licence.
Asks me where i am going so i said to work, miles away.

Gives me some advice... Then tells me to slow down, be safe and be on my way.

THANK YOU POLICE MEN!

It would have been three, but they had to go off & do something else.

I've had that before, for quite some speed over the limit. Half way through a telling off he just shouted its your lucky night and they shot off lol.

It was pretty mad tbh, years ago me & some mates were out for a drive round Epping forest, some dude in a Fiat Punto randomly stopped us & asked if we were OK ?

We were like wtf? 2 seconds later a load of marked police cars showed up!!
They asked the usual stuff, got a call & then buggered off.
Cheers mate ;)

Ignore the junkie. He thinks I actually care about what he thinks.

He's been a parasite on this forum since the day he joined.

I guess every forum has to have one person that nobody likes.
Lol, go on Ron!!
