Tapping

Hey

Engine makes a subtle tapping sound, Increases when engine speed increases.

Drive along side a wall with the window open and you can hear it, Otherwise you can only hear it when standing outside the car when its idling.

Now.. Its always done this since i got it, but its slightly more evident since i changed the Spark Plugs.

Any idea what it could be?

Its actually more evident today.

Dephaser was replaced in April so wont be that.

I thought i did those up quite tight to be fair.

I will check them after work today

On a side note, The old plugs (2 of 4) had oil on them and a dark gunk around the washer on the plugs.

Plug(s) loose I'd say, had it happen on mine 40k after changing plugs and tightening to spec.

Just got home, Too dark now to take car inlet off
Might do it lunch time tomorrow at work, takes all of 30 mins anyway.

Why would loose plugs cause tapping? Im sure its simple to explain i just cant see why lol

Its the gases blowing out from where its a bit loose, makes a tapping noise. Same as if you have a small hole in your exhaust manifold, that makes a tappy noise too.
