K9k timing belt failure

  Mk3 clio 1.5dci
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this on the mk3 clio 1.5 dci? Mine was a dci86.
In my brief spell with Renault we done a few Meganes with the dci 106 engine and I was assured my engine wasn't in the specified range.... Then boom. Quite spectacular cloud of smoke on the bypass. Day before going to Florida.
Just outside warranty though. Renault however did replace the engine with a brand new one.
Just interested to find out if I'm not alone lol.

Misaligned fuel pump eventually causing the belt to run of and shread. Was a recall for this to be checked and realigned with new fuel pipe.

Yeh it was a recall but every time I put my car in it wasn't within the range to be checked. Then when it went in after I left my mate checked again and still nothing. In hindsight might have been an idea to just check it for the 2 mins it takes.
The cause on mine was the mis aligned pump.

Well I hope this highlights to anyone with one, that it's not just them, my pump was misaligned and shredded the belt. In the same way as the 2 meganes that I replaced engines on had shredded thiers. Was impressed with Renault customer care for sorting it all out even though I was out of warranty. Had seen small bits and bobs authorised but not an engine without even some customer contribution. Which they asked for when I was just one day out of warranty on my ac compressor lol

Hi, I have a Renault Grand Scenic 1.5 dci K9K engine and my timing belt has snapped. The vehicle has done just 28500 miles. I have raised this with Renault UK. Could you please confirm how do we prove this that the misaligned fuel pump actually led to the timing belt being shreded? I opened the timing belt black plastic case and I can clearly see/feel the timing belt being shredded.

Any pointers/guidance will be useful. Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi Shanker, you might be better off, asking on RSMegane.com.

Thanks @youngarthur . I have an account on RSMegane.com however I am unable to find any suitable posts on that forum. I posted my question here because the same issue has been discussed here. People like @kmackdci @Renault Wolverhampton and @lemonnobby have mentioned they have seen a few of this issue.

In my case, the timing belt hasnt snapped into two, it is just shredded along the edges as in this video

Hi mate renault recommend a new engine. But could do just valves. It effects lagunas and possibly clios renault wont pay anything towards it though
Thanks for the reply @lemonnobby. After having researched about this in detail, it seems this problem happens in all models of renault vehicles fitted with a K9K 105 bhp (78kw) dci engine. This has been noted on the NCA on DVSA.

After speaking to DVSA, it has transpired that Renault have incorrectly informed DVSA about the VIN range noted on the NCA. It is NOT VF1J22B0D43787470 but it should be VF1JZ2B0D43787470 and applies to all vehicles fitted with K9K 832 1.5 dci diesel engines. As a result of this error, Renault may have not got the complete list of people affected by the issue from the DVLA and hence would not have sent letters for recall. People with vehicles fitted with this engine should speak to Renault UK asap.

Raised a Freedom of Information request to DVLA and they state it is the the step 2 K9K 1.5 dci engines. I dont know what step 2 means.
