Gearbox noises

  RB 182 FF
When driving my 182 there’s a faint whine from what I’m assuming is the box, however above 20 when I put my foot on the clutch there’s a loud whirring whining noise. The clutch itself is genuine Renault and 20k old. I guess I’m looking at a gearbox? It’s been suggested that these suffer from diff bearings?

That’s a mainshaft bearing then I imagine.

Oh dear! What’s yours doing?
Grumbling when in drive mate.
non rpm specific,
still present when clutch is depressed (quieter slightly)
Increases with vehicle speed
Tone doesnt change much under lateral load

I think its diff bearings if im honest

(apologies to the OP for the thread hyjack)

It’ll be the mainshaft bearing mate. Diff bearing is usually more of a whine.

Annoying as it has only done 25k since a supposed full build from a trans shop.
I purchased it unused from a chap building a race car that never completed the project. So I’ve no comeback. Just a little annoying as I’m very mechanically sympathetic.

I’ll have Alex build a new one and move my Quaife over. Probably add a light FW whilst I’m there.
