ChatGPT (AI)

My mate is an ex dev, changed to designer some years back. However, he’s at an advertising business and his job is literally promoting AI to generate changes to components now. Getting better at his job is managing to achieve the output with less prompts.

He has actually embraced his ‘new job’ but it’s a totally different thing.

With regards to peer reviewing the code, he had said similar. s**t bloated code, no one actually understanding how it works because its solutions are iterative and it never solves the whole solution, just the latest problem and tries again.

That is really depressing to read, fella.

I don’t use it at all currently, there’s a lot of my job it can’t help with, but even for presentations etc. I’m a quick computer user. I find it so much faster to put stuff together myself than to use AI and then spend time tweaking it.

I feel a bit annoyed I can’t get on with it, but at the same time, I just don’t think it’s good enough.

We have quite long conversations about this stuff now, (sad I know). But the most interesting thing to me was that ALL of the companies are running loss leading pricing at the moment.

With how expensive his subscription at work is, (and they’re already putting limits on tokens per day) if it goes up (some estimates are 5x), it’s genuinely going to be cheaper to employ people again 😂😂😂

Take the job, build your own AI agent to manage those 12, take the money and do something else with your time? :)

Yeah, you'd think that would be a good strategy. However, when enquiring further, the successful applicant is purely there to review the code, report, and feed back to the AI team that run the agents. Yep, they have a separate team(s) managing the agents. The role is literally babysitting 12 AI agents, reviewing, and feeding back to someone else. Just to have a human in the loop. Mind numbing. The fact that, as the reviewer and senior human in the loop, you don't actually control and guide those agents directly is just crazy.

Still feels like something someone could automate on the sly 😂

Does seem nuts now that there’s jobs ‘managing’ agents

I uploaded some isolation diagrams and feeding arrangements onto my supergrok and asked it about isolations and alt feeding arrangements and let's just say there wouldn't be a functioning railway if AI was currently in charge 😂

I’ve switched to Claude recently and for engineering it’s loads better.

Ask it for a diagram and you get a reasonable decent drawing with dimensions rather than the obscure pictures ChatGPT usually pumps out.

This kind of thing is exactly why normal people shouldn't have access to AI. What a complete waste of everyone's time and energy. The idea of AI generated films is so depressing. The whole point of films, TV series, plays, music and any other creative medium is that it's made by people. That said, it's still going to happen, because people are gimps.

A good amount of the s**t pumped out by Hollywood is no better than what AI would produce anyway.

Just look at Disney, pumping billions into f**king superhero films that are not even goo enough to be called average.

This.

I'm all for supporting humans doing genuinely creative art but a huge percentage of what we consume has been slop for decades.

Go onto ChatGPT, ask it to write you a screenplay for an episode of Grey's Anatomy, and tell me with a straight face that it's worse than anything they've put out in the last 10 years.
