have got me car in at reno having a 36k serivce done and they have said the nock sensor need's renewing and there is another open fault something to do with the acoustic valve it sounds like .
what is the nock sensor . ??
do i need to keep the acoustic valve wires conected . ??
Knock sensors detect knocking/pinking/detonation, which is where the fuel/air mixture ignites as it reaches flash point BEFORE the spark plug ignites it. Also known as 'detting'. It's very bad. If the knock sensor detects knocking, it alters the ignition timing to compensate.
But pinking, knock, det and auto-ignition are all very different abnormal combustion characteristics and cannot be labelled under the same tag.
Knock sensors detect knock because it is not physically harmfull, but has a stronger harmonic signal than pinking so is easier to detect umong all the mechanical noise. Its a bit away from det so you dont have to worry about damage.
well had spoken to the tech guy on the phone and he said it will be fine just got the open fault which will read or come up all the time on the clip thingy .
looker's reno chester i alway's go there get good service and the bird's are fit which makes it and added bonus . lol
