Where has my power gone??

Car  S2 106 GTI
Went out in my car last ngt and the drive had a compleatly different feel to it!
put my foot down and there was no power! usually my car picks up well and when it get into the 'play mode- past 4000 revs) its goes like s**t!!! but on this occasion it was dead!

i mean it pulled but not like it used to, something was restricting it. I have a sports cat fitted and i'm thinking this could be the cause if it is damaged inside. No warning lights have come on. would this put the car into 'limp' mode?
or could it be more of an engine problem.
any help is good help!!!!! :)

It may seem stupid but did you let it warm up properly?

lol, I know it may seem like a stupid question cos alot of people don't! I always let it warm up, either leave it ticking over for a few mins before i set off on journeys even then i drive 5-6 miles before i put my foot down or I drive about 6-7 miles down the road before its warmed up!

what are you thinkin might be the problem matey??

Limiter comes in earlier thats all. Maybe just a one off, you drove it again after you thought it was slow? Cars have gay days so id drive it again before you think theres a problem!!

Exhaust blowing ??

I think it could be hun :) , fingers crossed its that sports cat. but no lights have come on? getting it sorted tomorro! just don't want it to die on me!!!!! don't like this 'limp mode'

yeah drove it again today and still the same but a new noise has started! where the carb is, when you turn the ignition on it buzz's! so i started the engine and it kept buzzing! is this normal????? i tapped the carb with my finger and it sounded like it was shorting out or something? but still buzzing, electrical fault maybe?

coolant sensor, possible cat fault as you said.

Limp home mode comes into play only when warning lights are on.

Throttle body ;)

where abouts is the coolant sensor? I'm hoping its the cat! would this cause the car to run s**t and not let it have its full power?

sorry, just read that then!!! mistake! lol

A lot of the possible and probable faults like a failed lambda sensor would cause the warning light to come on on the dash. Since that hasn't come on it has to be something that affects performance but doesn't register as a fault to the computer.

A restriction in the intake system would fit. If there's a buzz coming from the throttle body perhaps it has developed a fault and isn't opening fully. In models with an electronic throttle the throttle plate is moved by a stepper motor. Faulty stepper motors can buzz.

would this show up on a diagnostic test? cos i am getting one done tomorro to see if anything shows, start of the search to the fault!!! i'm hoping it to be something simple!!!!! like the cat or the throttle body

Edde is like a tree of renault knowledge, the codes will be on one of his branches. lol

ah! errr off the top of my head i wouldn't have a clue! it went something like 3905?? but not 100% i can find out later on in the week or at the weekend. have you got all the codes or something???

Its to many seperate sheets would takes ages to dig out.

It gives like a flow chart yep or fixes often.

I'll give you a pm when i get it done again and tell you the exact numbers, Would such a fault as the coolant temp sensor cause power loss?

Possible.

Check your coolent temperatrue gauge goes upto half and doesn't move also check your coolent pipes are hot might be a faulty termostatat.

put a new sensor in my car now and the fault can't be delated!!! the code number is 3913, can anyone please tell me what this is????

spark plugs?
had this on mine.
not the code.

just bought some new plugs today!!! £15 each!! whats the world coming to!!!!!! ha ha ha. but on the good side I didn't pay £15 each just paid £10! (its who you know!!!!;) ) NGK ones, K-Tec said try changing the plugs, so i'll give that ago! OH..... and i found what the coolant fan stage 2 means! lol its for cars with air-con! so there's something wrong somewhere! cos mine hasn't got it :rasp:

changed plugs - and still the same! oh its doing my head in!!!! lol runs like clutch is slipping but i don't think it would be that??.... could be wrong though!

any more view on this?? all help needed! :o

last call is Renault £67.56 to get a diagnostic test done!!!!

i have a similar problem, i had an engine rebuild on my dci and they didnt put a washer ring on one of the injectors, i had this fitted for £30 (yesterday), driving today and the limp mode indicator came on, loss of power, max 80mph etc. rung them and they said they would plug their laptop in on friday (for free) and see what it brought up, this is a standard mechanic not a renault garage, so if u hang on i cud let u know what they say, although its unlikely itll be the same problem.

Yeah all help is good help! no lights have come on, i'm thinking it might be sometihng to do with fuel! blocked fuel filter or fuel pump going used just under half a tank and only did 80-90 miles!!!!! can usually get to trafford center and back on that!!!!!

anyone know where fuel filter is and fuel pump??? i'm thinking pump will be inside the tank!

PUmp and filter are in the tank get to the by lifting the rear seat up. There fine for 150k though no point changing.

You realy need to gete the car to a dealership might be faulty injectors there one thing that never shows up on computer checks etc.

Will be a different problem the dci engine all computer controlled littl for a DIY to fix on them.

But not using washer on the injectors humm says a lot about there workmanship. I'd hope they have either a very very expensive computer setup or the proper Renault stuff as new injectros need to be programmed into the ECU they arn't plug in and go as such.
