Cambelt on non sports

I have a 2001 mk2 ph2 1.6 16v. After reading loads about 1*2 cambelts, i was wondering if the ones on the non sports need to be done as frequently? My car has 51K on the clock and has recently had a service.

iirc the manual says every 5 years it needs to be done

I know quite a few people who have 1.2 16v's and they have had their cambelt changed for agess

They're all rubber so they'll all perish eventually!

Best to do it at 5 years - it'll still cost a feck load to repair if it goes wrong.

Dunno, I had mine done in France at a main dealer and was apparently a lot cheaper than over here

Maybe 300? Don't slate me if it's not, I'm just guessing lol

i got mine done at a renault specialist and my aux belt for 320
same car as yours

mate mine is on 57k (4 and half ish years old?)and it snapped the other day

trust me get it done asap

i will be doing mine about 6 months before 5 years (next June)

just not worth risking as it could cost u s**t loads to get new components installed

Mine was changed at 6 years.

Cost me £270 from a main dealer, but it's only a 1.2.

saying that my old clio mk2 was on 65 and 9 years old never changed and it was ok lol

You can get the belts done for £250 if you should round dealers.
There easy on the 1.2 etc

ANy longer than 4 years and 60k I'd get them chnaged I've seen them go time and time again before 72k and 5 years and if you've no warently to fall back on just do it.

Its not cheap but in terms of what happen if it breaks and the inconveninace plus its not much in the grand scale of thing might a well get it done for peace of mind.

They are more long lastiing that the 172/182 but well it happens.

not sure if the other models are the same but on the 1.2 16v you MUST do the waterpump!! mine was done just over a year before i got it, (and about 20k miles) and it snapped due to the waterpump bearing seasing up (had been leaking for ages!)

worst part was i was in the middle of a 2 car overtake at 6,000rpm in 3rd gear lol just died on me and had to pull back like a complete dick head on an empty straight.

stripped the head off it, 8 bent valves, not good. £150 for a new engine and it was back on the road lol

You don't have to do the waterpump on the 1.2 or 1.4 or dci or 1.6 its optional and not a bad idea but there no need to.

If its leaking then you'd know about it as you'd always be topping it up as such and should kave found the problem not left it.
