Peru - Machu Picchu (First proper test of the 50D and new lens's)

Well, i'm back, and managed to take 2000 pics over about 4-5 days, under some quite difficult circumstances, lots of rain, dust and coach windows with reflections!

I've uploaded them to facebook for now but am planning to put them on a website like flickr, just not sure which one yet, the photos on facebook are very compressed and tiny though, so want to be able to host bigger ones, but theres a lot of them.

Anyway, camera was fantastic, took the 17-55 f2.8 IS, the 10-22 and the 70-200 f4 L and mostly used the 17-55, but used the 10-22 for most of the machu picchu photos which got me some interesting angles.

Camera is very fast to focus and the 17-55 is great in low light conditions, flash hasn't been fired yet, most pics were taken on aperture priority but some of the pics from the coach window had to be on shutter priority so as to get a decent speed.

Anyway, enough of the waffle, here are the pics and as always, i welcome criticism whether it be negative or positive, I think the pics are really good though, was very pleased when going through them when i got back. The Machu Picchu ones were the hardest ones to get right as there was a lot of dust flying around on the first time up there and then it was raining and misty the second time.

I appreciate there are a lot of photos, but there is a lot of variety so I hope you enjoy them.

Nice place to break in a new camera! I was going to mention about composition, but realised i must have been looking at the bus pictures, so did well even to get them!

I like this one, purel because of the perspective and sortof illusion of sizes!

If i'm honest i've stopped judging photos on web/reduced sizes, it's full resolution i'm more interested in. Any camera can make a pic look good at 600-700 pixels wide. SO what are they like 100%, happy with them?

ok, setup my flickr account now and am slowly uploading them, at 6mb a pic and over 500 of them its taking a little bit of time, at least the large prints are available now so show off the pics much better.

Brown.

mountain shots look a little bland colour wise, are these images devoid of editing, in camera as well ?, although on second thought, am viewing these on mac screen....... might just be me.

agreed, i'm getting the full res ones up as mentioned above, its best to view the flickr on large size and not original though as you need a bloody big monitor to view them at 4500 pixels wide for a 15mp image, even my 1920 17" laptop isn't big enough!

I like that one too although i just wish it hadn't been quite so dull, needed a bit more sun for it really.

Much better looking at them at a larger size :). Some really sharp shots too. Were you going with a guy who'd just spent a shitload on Nikon stuff? How were his shots?

yes they are in camera, did a few RAW but haven't touched them yet as i've not used them before.

The mountains, they were a difficult one as the one day it was quite dry and arid and lots of dust storms to make everything look yellowy (yep, just made that up!)

Then the second day it was 8am and very dull, misty and raining so i didn't really get a good chance of say afternoon sun after some rainfall.

From the other shots you can tell the camera has no issues with colour though, i think its just me, i'm not a landscape photographer, very much a people and object one.

I can see what you are saying though, although it might be worth waiting until I have the machu picchu pics on flickr rather than facebook as thats not the best way to show them off, lets be honest.

not seen his yet, i'm sure hes sorting them this weekend and putting them on his site and i'll hopefully get to see them next week.

I'm happy with mine though, although as mentioned by peaches, the colours on my mountains aren't jumping out.....
