Computer HELP !

  Titanium 182
So last night i thought i would have a go with AMD overdrive that came bundled with my motherboards software, installed the software and opened it up.

Looking around the net for a guide it said to use the auto clock with which your computers tests for stability whilst increasing the CPUs speed all you have to do is click start so did that and it said, "The process may take 7 minuites to 7 hours" so i thought i'll see what it says in the morning.

Turned my screen off and went to bed, in the night my old man came in and thought i'd left it on so he turned it off at the plug socket.

Now when i turn it on it posts but wont boot, i can get into the BIOS but when i try and get it to boot i get a black screen with white writing saying

"Could not find boot source" (or something)
"Insert boot device or change boot priority* (or something)

So i went into bios and checked the boot priority

it says

Hard Drive
CD/DVD
IDE

Well I don't have an IDE so i don't know why thats there.. but anyway it should be booting from the HDD first ?

My system spec (If it helps) is :

Mobo - ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe
CPU - AMD Phenom 9950 Black Edition
2gig of geil 800Mhz
Nvidia Geforce 9600GT BFG
450w Hyper PSU
And some Compaq 80Gb HDD (SATA)

Please help that HDD has all of my photography pictures on it and all the pictures of my car :(

Thanks for any help
James.

it should be booting from hdd first, it could be a number of things, your hdd os install has cirrupted, try a windows repair to see if it sees the drive at all OR it could be a problme with SATA not being enabled inthe bios, perhaps reset the CMOS using the switch on the mobo and see if that helps..

the overclocking settings that it produced may have cause ram instability or cpu problems and maybe it doesn't like it when booting up to windows. Defo start with resetting the CMOS actually. If no go try windows repair..

worst comes to the worst you can use a proggie like ERD commander to get your data off and get a new hdd or soemthing.

I haven't ever had to do a windows repair before, so i just put my Vista disc in and do it through that ? if my OS install is corrupted does that mean i have lost everything ? :(

Thanks for your help i really appreciate it.

no relax, one step at a time. it's a process, so start at the beginning

put your vista disc in, boot from the cd and follow the options to do a repair...it willl either see your hdd or it won't ,that'll indicate a problem right there if it doesn't..

As David says, reset the CMOS before anything else. Most motherboards at least have a CMOS jumper, some have a CMOS reset button. If you can't find that, then unplug the power chord, and remove the battery for a minute or two.

kk i'll give that a go first, if the worst comes to the worst a friend has told me i can send my HDD off to have the data extracted or something, is that correct? (obvisouly this is worst case scenario)

I'm just trying to find another HDD at the moment as i want a faster one anyway so this has pushed me to order one. Just need to find a quicksih one now.

Thanks again.

samsung spinpoint f1 drives are pretty top notch, you cna check out tomshardware charts for better benchmarks...or get a raptor if you have the money and don't mind the noise...

tbh i don't think it'll come to that..

I can vouch for raptors being noisy. I have one as my OS drive, and it's not quiet.

I have gone for samsung spinpoint F1 300GB drive

Was £35 so i'll go pick that up tonight after work then go home and try and fix it.

lets hope it doesn't or i have the tedium of putting all my music on itunes again >_<
