as title really? fast road use, dont want something to stiff thats gong to ruin the handling!

Bilstein are over £150 cheaper! but dont mind paying for H&Rs if they are better!

Anyone else know this? i know the bilstein are supposed to be better for track as they are stiffer and h&r for road as they are more like standard but i can can get the bilstein cheap so couldn't you just use softer poundage springs on the bilstiens?

Sorry if this is a hijack but i thought if i put it in the same thread it may help you too :)

Bilstein all day every day for me. Got em on my car, really can't fault em (altho I'd probably want it even stiffer for track).

KW V1s are cheaper than both too i beleive? any other votes for them for fast road? just dont want to spend the cash on something to stiff thats worse than standard on your average UK road! as the car is only used for hard fast driving!

H&R's and FK's are both balls imo! Drove both on the road and on track,

KW's were supreme both on the 172 and on the Vee! Well made, don't rust, easy to adjust and set up!

KW are brilliant, just right for the road on the soft setting - then you can play with the setting for track.

Try the ast's too. Well made, adjustable, group buy being sorted at the moment. Unlike all the others mentioned they have a rear coilover as well.

Bollox H&R's are!!! iirc you were getting H&R's for the vee, untill you found out they don't make em no more!!!! :rasp:

LOL - H&R's are quality suspension, ive tracked my car 3 times this year and out performed a yozza setup on V2s quite substantially around corners. Also the car is very neutral and they are still very good and comfortable down B roads.

Ali=baw bag. I'd love to try some H&R's, compare to my AST's. So difficult to compare though, set up makes such a difference. You could try some decent coilovers with a set-up you don't like, and hate them!

i can corner so f**king hard with my H&R´s, and still pretty comfy ride ! Brilliant stuff.

I'd put money on the AST's being better, more focused, the rears look interesting pieces of kit :) But as a fast road set up H&R's are excellent, they are leagues ahead of the FK's.....

i love my asts, in the road there perfect on the track there awsome, the whole car is balanced and it takes alot to provoke a nasty reaction from the car with them on, lift off oversteer is even very controlable with them on

And they are EPIC at the nurburgring!!!!

Fantastic. A fair bit more expensive too.

If you're after good fast road use and a compliant ride, go for H&R's mate.

Id go with that. H&R's for road but if your takin it on the track then it has to be AST's. That adjusment is so, so useful and benefical :)

The group buy thats being sorted makes the AST's the same price (fitted) as the H&R's. Anyone that wants to have a go with my AST's is welcome. Mine run softer springs than Dans, the ride is pretty close to standard, but the handling is very different!!

How harsh is the ride on the B roads mate?

Very, very good. Thats why I switched to the softer springs (for reference, when I say soft, they are still stiffer than the Trophy springs). On the harder springs, I was getting thrown all over the place. On these springs, and the new set-up (more camber, different toe etc), it's very supple.
Haven't had chance to play with the dampers yet, that'll wait till the weekend.
More than happy with them now, I'd actually started putting money aside to buy another Trophy, but that's not happening!!

I agree the ride and drive is better on the springs i originally had which are the ones that you now have. My setup is with the harder springs as you know which is a compromise for road use but i wanted the most out of it while on track. My car will be much better next week in terms of the (thrown all over the place) feeling you sometimes get. This is down to the rebound on the AST dampers being designed for the original spring rates. Curtis is going to strip down my dampers and add quite a bit more rebound damping to them to stop the springs expanding back so quickly. Should be a huge improvement and should get rid of the need for the softer spring setup.
As for the trophy spring rates you were talking about, being 200lb on the front. They maybe 200lb spring off the car but dont forget that they are preloaded and therefore act as a much higher rate than they originally start from(200lb)

ASTs are in a different league. For a start they actually have things other than height you can adjust straight out the box. I've driven many coilover equipt cars and nothing has been so compliant when driving normally, and so completely confidence inspiring when being pushed hard. You can achieve a good setup with Bilsteins/H&Rs but it takes some work and you NEED to add a camber adjustment method (top mounts or camber bolts). If you must do it, go for the Bilsteins, they're significantly cheaper and THE SAME apart from the colour
