    Used 172 Sport Queries

this is a well known issue with all of the 172s, its just the engine mounts!! Thats the sort of detail I was hoping for. Is it a "fault" as such......or just a weakness?? I have a 106GTI and the same problem exists........though it doesnt show itself in the same way.

    Used 172 Sport Queries

A friend is looking at buying a 2002 172 Sport and wondered if anyone could help with a few hints and tips of anything in particualr to look at?? In particular......when first out on a test drive.....there was a loud knocking from under the car when first accelerating hard on a smoothish road...

    1/4 MILE TIMES

I know what you mean about "hard to believe". Have a look if you get chance at some of the in gear times of the VW diesel engined cars. Especially something like a new Ibiza that been chipped. With 172 bhp and over 300 LB/FT torque the in gear times and especially 50-70 in 5th is similar to...

    1/4 MILE TIMES

Carlos, Ive got no interest in 1/4 mile times so why would I do one. My interest and work lies in chassis engineering and vehicle dynamics. After scanning through the forum I noticed this thread and after seeing the results of a 1/4 mile time set by a 206HDI with 160bhp, put down...

    LAD Cup conversion

Dont do it mate!!!! I have a Peugeot 206 and bought a suspension kit off L.A.D. Upon fitting it I found a lot of probs. When I started investigating it turned out they werent for a 206 but a Citroen ZX and rears for a 205 which are a lot shorter. When I complained to L.A.D they basically said...

    1/4 MILE TIMES

Unfortunately I cannot claim the 1/4 time in the HDI as my own. That doesnt mean however that it wasnt done. The chap concerned is a diesel specialist in Denmark who currently has 184 bhp out of his 206HDI but on the 1/4 mile time it was at 165bhp. The torque figure on the car is over 300 LB/FT.

If you can round here quick enough..........youll have to wait for me to finish and that wont be until at least.............30secs:(

    306 hdi

Youve got to keep things in context. Its easy to say that is sh*t and mine is faster than yours........Ive never tried to compare a HDI, no matter what state, to a Scooby. I believe this started out as a HDI could no way be quicker than a 16valver. Hopefully, people might see this is...

    306 hdi

Now you are showing your knowledge capacity or lack of it.......torque is accelaration.....not bhp. Its the torque that pulls the vehicle. The more torque the faster. Rally cars are governed at 300bhp. The torque is not.....which is why some are faster than others. Its all about the torque and...

    306 hdi

If you think you know a lot and can read....not wanting to get too personal hear......have a look at the in gear times....which is what really counts.....and see that the times would be a little closer than you think. I never mentioned anything about 0-60. Anything that drives just the front...

    306 hdi

The VW TDI (130) chipped is possible to get around 180ish bhp. With the torque.....around 260 LB/FT then the in gear times will be BLOODY quick. And yep I could believe as quick as a Scooby. They only have around 200-210 LB/FT torque.

    1/4 MILE TIMES

    206 HDI 160bhp.......14.4 secs

    306 hdi

Most engines can be modded to a certain extent. Its like has been mentioned b4.......its how much you have to spend......and how reliable they r. With the HDI....its quite simple and not that expensive to get the power gains. And still with the power hike....still able to get 60+mpg on a run.

    306 hdi

The problem is though where power gains are concerned.......normally aspirated engines dont come anywhere near the same potential £ for £ than a turbo diesel. So you wouldnt get that much of an increase for the same money.

    306 hdi

And when the turbo is reworked....then 180-185bhp here we come!!!!
