I think I need to dismiss this option - much as though I'd love to learn I just do not have the time. Whether I buy this car or not from what I am reading I should understand the cost of this - seems to be pretty common.

Yep, Agency quoted £350 but cannot take the box out/in and didnt have any recommendations. You removed/refitted it yourself? Is this something a non-specialist would be fine with?

My thoughts were , if the price is right, buy this, get gearbox done and know its good. rather than buy a car and have the box go a couple of months later. I'm trying to figure out that the 'correct' price to pay for the car to take account of the gearbox repair.
