I used to love my iPod Nano when I had my paper round. The iPod was revolutionary really but smart phones and streaming services killed them off.

I've not really put mine down whenever there has been time spare on an evening. I don't think its a gimmick if you are using it for games designed for handheld. I think using them for games designed for TV screens back in the day (ps1, n64 etc aren't as enjoyable)
